SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – University of Utah athletic director Mark Harlan tweeted an update regarding the Utes’ football program following a canceled game against Arizona.

On Friday, November 6, Utah announced that due to players testing positive for the virus, the Utes’ game against the Wildcats wouldn’t take place on November 7.

A day after the cancellation, Harlan posted an update on social media.

“Today, we had good testing results and we will test again tomorrow,” Harlan said. “After we get those results, we will update all on where we stand and our ability to play this weekend. Our team is a part of this community and like many, struggling to avoid this virus.”

“Our coaches and students have been dillegent but we ALL have to do more,” Harlan continued.”Thank you to all who have reached out to our team with support as it has meant a lot. More to come tomorrow and lets all wear masks for each other, stay safe and play ball.”

Harlan’s update arrived about 28 hours after his initial statement on the canceled game vs. Arizona and what he called “a very difficult day.”

“We are continuing to take every precaution to safeguard the health and welfare of our student-athletes and staff, in accordance with the Pac-12 COVID-19 Medical Advisory Committee’s procedures. Those with positive test results and those in contact tracing protocols are in isolation and receiving the appropriate care,” Harlan said on November 6. “We will continue to monitor our testing results and stay in close communication with our University, local public health officials and the Pac-12 Conference.”

Provided they are able to play in their next scheduled contest, the Utes will travel to the Rose Bowl to play against the UCLA Bruins on Friday, November 13 at 8:30 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on FS1.
