Five Players That Stood Out In Utah’s Win Over No. 21 Colorado

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah football had plenty of standout performers in their 38-21 win over No. 21 Colorado on Saturday.

The Utes went over to Boulder for a morning kickoff and knocked off the Buffaloes for the fourth straight time. It’s Utah’s second straight win of the season.

Utah made a lot of great plays in the second half when they scored 28 unanswered points to snatch the win. Colorado suffered their first loss of the 2020 campaign.

Here is the Crimson Corner’s five standout performers from the Utah win.

Ty Jordan, Running Back

Jordan is quickly becoming a superstar at Utah. The future is so bright for this true freshman. For the second straight week, Jordan rushed for over 100 yards, racking up 147 rushing yards and ran in two touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 19 yards.

His quickness and toughness is standing out. Utah has found their lead back and he is a good one. Through four games, Jordan has rushed for 443 yards and three scores. He is averaging 7.3 yards per carry and 110.7 yards per game on the ground.

Nephi Sewell, Linebacker

Sewell filled up the stat sheet on Saturday, finishing with a team-high 11 tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble, an interception and one pass breakup. The former safety has made plays all season and has forced four turnovers in four games.

Through four games, Sewell is second with 35 tackles, along with 3 tackles for loss, two interceptions, two pass breakups, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Sewell has a defensive touchdown in 2020 when he got a scoop-and-score in their season opener against USC.

Jake Bentley, Quarterback

The South Carolina graduate transfer played his best game as a member of the Utah football team on Saturday. Bentley completed 20-of-32 passes for 240 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He ran the ball 11 times for 31 yards with some of those carries coming on crucial third down plays.

Through four games in 2020, Bentley has completed 70 of his 110 pass attempts for 729 yards, 5 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He has 30 rushing attempts for 100 yards and one TD.

Britain Covey, Wide Receiver

It’s official. Britain Covey is back. After getting a receiving TD and a punt return for a touchdown last week, Covey had another big game for the Utes against Colorado. The redshirt junior had a career-high 9 receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown. He ran the ball once for two yards. Covey had three punt returns for 44 yards and three kick returns for 88 yards. All in all, Covey racked up 210 all-purpose yards.

This season, Covey has 13 receptions for 130 yards and two touchdowns, along with 3 carries for 9 yards. He has five punt returns for 112 yards and one touchdown, and 3 kick returns for 88 yards. This is all in just 3 games after sitting out the season opener with USC and being limited to primarily special teams against Washington.

JaTravis Broughton, Cornerback

Broughton had another big performance but it won’t show up as much on the stat sheet. JT recorded 4 tackles, one tackle for loss and a fumble recovery in Utah’s win over Colorado. In the second half, Broughton made big plays by having the Colorado receiver covered and not allowing the Buffaloes to get downfield. The Utes allowed a 61-yard touchdown catch on the first play of the third quarter. After that, Utah’s defense held Colorado scoreless.

In 2020, Broughton has 22 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 2 pass breakups and one fumble recovery.

Utah will host the Washington State Cougars in their regular season finale on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 11:30 a.m. MST. The game will be televised on FS1.
