Overton’s 16-Point Performance Not Enough In UVU’s Loss To New Mexico State

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – J.J. Overton had 16 points for Utah Valley but it wasn’t enough in their 67-60 loss to New Mexico State on Saturday night in El Paso.

Overton was the only UVU player to score in double figures as the team shot 42 percent from the field and made just 5 of their 17 three-point attempts. Evan Cole and Jade McClanahan had 9 points apiece. Fardaws Aimaq was all over the boards once again, collecting 15 rebounds to go with just two points on 1-of-7 shooting from the floor.
New Mexico State outscored the Wolverines 30-24 in the first half and 37-36 in the second half.

The Aggies had three players score in double figures, led by Jabari Rice with 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Evan Gilyard II added 16 points, while former Utah Utes forward Donnie Tillman chipped in 10 points.
New Mexico State shot just 36 percent from the field and 34 percent from the three-point line but had just 9 turnovers and forced UVU to commit 14 turnovers. The Aggies scored 19 points on fastbreaks.
Utah Valley dropped their record to 8-9 overall and 6-3 in Western Athletic Conference play. They will host UT Rio Grande Valley for a two-game series next week. The series will take place on Friday, February 26 and Saturday, February 27. Both games will tip-off at 6 p.m. MST and will be streamed on the KSL TV app.
