Women’s Golf In Utah Boosted Following Symetra Tour Stop At Copper Rock

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The golfing scene in Utah is strong. In fact, it has likely never been stronger following a year that saw many amateur golfers pick up the game in the midst of the global pandemic. Golf felt like a sport that was safe to play and provided a social aspect that many millions around the world had been craving.

Now, when you go to book a tee time around Salt Lake City, you will often run into trouble as the tee sheet can fill up within minutes.

A few weeks ago, the Symetra Tour came to Hurricane, Utah, and delivered a professional tournament at Copper Rock Golf Course. The Copper Rock Championship was an attraction for golf lovers across the entire state and brought fans from various areas within the state.

Women’s golf was the attraction and boy did the players deliver.

Despite difficult conditions, the leader ended at 11-under-par. The field consisted of two ladies with Utah ties, one of whom, Kendra Dalton, making the cut and finishing in a tie for 45th.

It was a spectacle that had rarely been seen in Utah. The women’s golf scene was on full display.

“This is good for Southern Utah, it is good for Utah in general,” Copper Rock Head Pro John Horton said. “It is huge, especially for women’s golf and that was one of the biggest selling things for the owners, for the gentleman who built this golf course. All of the media being here is massive but as for Utah, if we can continue to grow the numbers here then this tournament will continue to get bigger, and bigger, and bigger.”
