College Football Analyst Calls BYU QB Jaren Hall ‘The Truth’

PROVO, Utah – BYU sophomore Jaren Hall will be at the center of a heated quarterback battle this fall. Hall, who has started in two games during his career, is viewed as one of the top candidates to replace the big shoes at QB left behind by Zach Wilson.

Emory Hunt, an analyst with CBS Sports and content creator for FootballGameplan.com, gave some high praise for Hall.

Hunt wrote on his Twitter account, “If QB Jaren Hall can play the whole season for #BYU, watch out. He’s the truth.”

I reached out to Hunt to hear what he likes about Hall’s game.

“He’s got the complete game: athletic, mobile, strong arm and can make every throw on the field,” wrote Hunt to KSL Sports.

Hall has been with the BYU program since the summer of 2018. That was the first year Aaron Roderick joined Kalani Sitake’s staff as Passing Game Coordinator. Every year Roderick has been at BYU, he’s had Hall and Baylor Romney, another player vying for the starting job, in his QB room.

Jaren Hall “can do everything Wilson can do.”

Roderick, this off-season, was promoted to offensive coordinator after Jeff Grimes was hired to be OC with the Baylor Bears. During the spring, Roderick made it clear he wants to keep a lot of the same offensive philosophies from last year’s offense that was ranked third in scoring offense a season ago, averaging 43.5 points per game.

Hunt feels Hall is the guy to keep the high-powered offense churning at BYU.

“The playbook doesn’t have to change [with Hall], as he can do everything Wilson can do,” Hunt said.

That’s some high praise. But Hall has shown flashes of how good he can be. When BYU traveled to Utah State in 2019, the Cougars entered that game 103rd nationally in scoring offense. In his only second start, Hall led BYU’s offense to 21 points in one-half of work. He then was sidelined due to a concussion.

During that one half at Utah State, Hall was 12-of-16 for 214 passing yards while also rushing for 54.

Since that game in Logan, Hall hasn’t appeared in any action due to a season-ending hip injury he suffered last year. Now he’s back and healthy and will look to prove why he might be “the truth” for BYU football at QB.

BYU football opens up fall camp practices on August 5th.
