Report: BYU Football, Notre Dame Set To Play At Allegiant Stadium In 2022

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The BYU football program will play the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Allegiant Stadium, the home of the Las Vegas Raiders, in 2022, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Mark Anderson reported the news on Saturday, September 4.
“Brigham Young will play Notre Dame at Allegiant Stadium in October 2022 as part of the Shamrock Series, a source with knowledge of the discussions said,” Anderson wrote. “The specific date is unknown, but both schools have open dates on Oct. 8 and 29.”
This is the latest big-game neutral-site college football game announced for Allegiant.

BYU & Notre Dame
BYU and Notre Dame scheduled a six-game agreement in 2010. At the time of the announcement 11 years ago, both faith-based, Independent programs were set to play all six games before the 2020 season.

After 11 years, only two games have been played, with three of the contests being canceled. Leaving BYU waiting for one home game against Notre Dame after the first two games were played in South Bend.
When BYU and Notre Dame first agreed on their six-game series, the Irish didn’t have a scheduling agreement with the ACC. Since partnering up with the ACC for five games annually each year, the Irish have not created openings to schedule BYU.
For a while, there was doubt about whether BYU had a remaining contract with Notre Dame or if the Cougars were going to get a payday from the Irish. The past few years have sparked optimism that another game will be played.
BYU and Notre Dame have played eight games against one another. The Irish lead the all-time series, 6-2. BYU’s victories came in 1994 and 2004.
The Cougars kick off their 2021 schedule with a game at Allegiant Stadium against the Arizona Wildcats. BYU vs. Arizona kicks off on Saturday, September 4 at 8:30 p.m. (MDT) on ESPN.
