Dave Rose Inducted Into Dixie State University Hall Of Fame

SALT LAKE CITY – Before becoming a successful coach for the BYU basketball program, Dave Rose coached at Dixie State University.
Rose was the head coach at then-Dixie College for seven seasons. This past weekend he was honored by Dixie State University as an inductee to their university hall of fame. Back in 2013, Rose was inducted into Dixie’s athletic hall of fame. This recognition embodies the entire university located in St. George.
Along with Rose, philanthropists Denis and Diane Lyman were inducted into Dixie State’s Hall of Fame class for 2021.
Rose joined the Dixie College program as an assistant in 1987 after serving as an assistant coach at nearby Pine View High School for a season. After three years as an assistant at Dixie, Rose was elevated to head coach in 1990. He posted a record of 167-57 guiding Dixie’s hoops program when they were still a junior college.
Six of Rose’s seven teams at Dixie College finished ranked in the final Junior College Basketball rankings.

In the spring of 1997, Steve Cleveland hired Dave Rose away from Dixie to join him on his first staff at BYU. Rose then spent the next 22 years working at BYU, eight as an assistant and 14 as a head coach. He posted a 301-131 record leading BYU hoops. Rose’s 301 wins make him the second-winningest coach in BYU history behind only Stan Watts.
Rose retired as BYU’s head coach after the conclusion of the 2018-19 season.
Off the court, Dave Rose has proven to be a fighter in many ways. Back in 2009, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which he went on to defeat. In 2019, Rose suffered a heart attack months after announcing his retirement from BYU.
Then in January of this year, Rose suffered a stroke, which he has since recovered after spending nearly two weeks in the hospital. According to his daughter, Chanell Reichner, the induction at Dixie State over the weekend was her father’s first public appearance since suffering the stroke.
