SALT LAKE CITY – Canadian born Jazz guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker hit a 65-foot heave for Canada in a World Cup Qualifier game against the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Republic hosted Canada in a FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Americas. Qualifier on Friday, July 1.

Alexander-Walker, who was born in Toronto, is a guard on the Canadian national team.

Drafted out of Virginia Tech in 2017, the athletic 6’6 shooting guard spent 2+ years with the New Orleans Pelicans.

In 143 games (35 starts) with New Orleans, Alexander-Walker averaged 9.9 points per game including a career high 12.8 points per game in 2021-22 before being traded midseason. He also chipped in 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

New Orleans dealt Alexander-Walker to Portland in the CJ McCollum trade before NAW made his way to Utah as a part of the Joe Ingles deal.

In 15 games for the Jazz, Alexander-Walker saw sporadic playing time under former Jazz head coach Quin Snyder.  He saw a steep drop-off in numbers across the board, averaging 3.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in Utah.

This is the third time Alexander-Walker has participated in international competition with the Canadian national team. He averaged 17.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in 2016 in the FIBA Americas U18 Championships. In 2020, he averaged 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and four assists per game in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
