Report: Zach Wilson Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery

SALT LAKE CITY – New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has undergone successful knee surgery, according to multiple reports.
Wilson underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee after he went down in the first quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles in a preseason game. Wilson also suffered a bone bruise but is expected to make a full recovery within 2-4 weeks.
No specific timeline for Wilson's return, but the fact that there were no surprises from the original diagnosis (meniscus tear) suggests it won't be an extended period on the sideline. Have to believe it'll be Flacco in Wk 1. https://t.co/S1YhTSxtm4

Wilson traveled to Los Angeles for the procedure.
The Zach Wilson Injury
Wilson ran outside of the tackles down the near sideline before making a cut around a defender. Immediately following the cut he dove forward and never returned to the field.
When Jets head coach Robert Saleh was asked in the postgame press conference if Wilson should have run out of bounds instead of looking for extra yards, the second-year head coach replied, “100%.”

Immediately following the injury, many feared that Wilson may have suffered a long-term injury, given the non contact manner in which he went down.
Timeline For Return Unknown
It remains unknown if Wilson will be available for the Jet’s opening game of the 2022 season against the Baltimore Ravens on September 11th at MetLife Stadium.
Wilson will miss the final two pre season games and joint practices against the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons.
“It’s a setback in that he’s missing an unbelievable opportunity to get the reps in, to play other defenses, especially the Giants, who have such an elaborate pressure-package system,” Saleh said in a recent press conference. “He has to get dialed in, just like he did last year when he was hurt.”
“The timing of it all is terrible and it sucks, but I think Zach still has an opportunity to grow from it if he attacks it mentally.”
In the meantime, Jets veteran backup quarterback Joe Flacco is expected to fill the void left by Wilson.
