SALT LAKE CITY – The magical run to Williamsport came to an end for Team Utah at the Little League World Series following their 10-2 loss to Team Iowa on Sunday.

The Little League World Series is a double-elimination tournament and Team Utah was not able to pick up a win in either of their two games.

It was a tough start for Team Utah in the top of the first inning as Team Iowa scored three runs off of three hits. After going scoreless in the bottom half of the inning, Utah was able to get a double play to keep Iowa from adding more runs on the scoreboard. Despite facing two outs, Iowa managed to get three more hits and the third one brought in a run to extend their lead to 4-0.

In the bottom of the second, Colton Gainey and Kolby Lamoreaux were able to get on base. A hit by Jake Tomlinson loaded the bases for Utah with one out. Chaz Hickman was walked to first base which brought Gainey in from third to give Utah their first run of the game. Dash Avery hit a ball deep into left field but the Iowa outfielder made an incredible catch throw to home plate to get Lamoreaux out to complete the double play and end the inning.

A wild pitch sent in another Iowa run to put their lead to 5-1 at the top of the third. Another deep ball for Iowa sent it two more runs and it was 7-1 with two outs in the third. Two more runs were added for Iowa before the end of their half of the inning, leading 9-1. In the bottom of the third inning, the game was in a lightning delay. The delay lasted 42 minutes before getting back to game action.

Team Utah had two on base with two outs in the bottom of the third. Lamoreaux added an RBI after driving in Reggie Ence to trim the deficit to 9-2. Brogan Coop was able to get the bases loaded after the Iowa first basemen couldn’t get the ground ball. With a chance to put more runs on the scoreboard, Team Utah struck out to end the inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, Cody Ruffell hit a ball into deep center field for a base hit. That hit didn’t result in a run as Team Iowa gets the play to first for the third out.

Utah had two on and two out in the bottom of the fifth inning. Unfortunately, the third out came from a strikeout. Before the start of the sixth and final inning, the game went into a rain delay. They resumed play at 3:00 p.m. MT and finished the final inning. Iowa added one more run in the sixth and shutout Utah in the bottom half.
