SALT LAKE CITY – The Los Angeles Rams announced that they have waived former Utah Utes defensive back Terrell Burgess on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the LA Rams tweeted out the news that they have waived Terrell Burgess after taking him in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

It was a roller coaster ride for Burgess, who had a tremendous senior season for the Utes in 2019, which shot him up the draft boards and landed him with the Rams as the 104th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

During his rookie season, Burgess played in the first seven games before suffering a season-ending injury. He came back last season and appeared in 16 of the 17 regular season games. The former Ute also started in two games on defense in the playoffs against the Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, before appearing on special teams in the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers and the Super Bowl against the Cincinnati Bengals.

This season, Burgess has 7 solo tackles and 11 total tackles in seven games played, including one start. He appeared on defense in two games this season.

During his time with the Rams, Burgess appeared in 34 regular season and playoff games, including five starts. He recorded 23 solo tackles, 36 total tackles, and one pass deflection.

Terrell Burgess’ Collegiate Career

The San Marcos, California native appeared in four games with three starts as a freshman in 2016.

Burgess played in all 13 games in 2017 on special teams with four games and one start on defense. He finished with 18 tackles and one tackle for loss.

As a junior in 2018, Burgess appeared in all 14 games with nine games on defense that included two starts. He recorded 16 tackles and three pass breakups.

Last season in 2019 as a senior, Burgess took advantage of his opportunity to start and ran with it, finishing with 81 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, six passes defended, five pass breakups and one interception in 14 starts at strong safety. Burgess was named a Pac-12 Honorable Mention.
