Texas High School RB Landen Chambers Decommits From BYU

PROVO, Utah – BYU football lost one of the top commitments in their 2023 recruiting class.
Landen Chambers from Fossil Ridge High School in Texas announced Friday that he has de-committed from BYU. It’s the second BYU recruit to move off a pledge to the Cougars this month. The other was Kahuku High (Hawaii) defensive lineman Stanley Raass flipping his commitment to Utah.

Chambers shared a social media post explaining his de-commitment from BYU.
“First and foremost all glory to God for the endless blessings of opportunities he continues to grant for me.
“I want to thank Coach Unga and the BYU football staff for the opportunity to extend my talent to the next level, as well as a huge thank you to the BYU fans for all the support during this recruitment process.
“Through many prayers and countless discussions with my family and support team about my academic and athletic future, as of today, I withdraw my verbal commit to Brigham Young University and open up my recruitment status.”
Landen Chambers is one of the top running backs in the Dallas area
The 5-foot-11, 210-pound Chambers is the top running back in the Dallas Fort Worth area in 6A Texas High School football. During his senior season at Fossil Ridge High, Chambers has racked up 1,604 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Throughout his prep career, Chambers has rushed for 3,762 yards, 41 touchdowns and grabbed 437 receiving yards and an additional four touchdowns.
Chambers committed to BYU over the summer. Since his commitment, more Power Five programs have been in pursuit of Chambers. Now that his recruitment is open don’t be surprised if many Power Five schools get into the mix.
Moving forward for BYU
For BYU, it’s a significant loss. The Cougars are gearing up for year one of the Big 12 Conference in 2023, and they will be losing Chris Brooks and Lopini Katoa to graduation. Often injured Jackson McChesney will be honored on Senior Day this weekend, but he has the option to return.
BYU does have a commitment from another talented ball carrier in this 2023 recruiting class, Leo Pulalasi from Lakewood, Washington. Pulalasi is one of the top prospects in the Pacific Northwest during this 2023 recruiting cycle.
With Chambers now de-committed, BYU is down to 14 commitments for the 2023 class. The early Signing Period begins on December 21 and runs through December 23.
