SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz missed the veteran presence of Mike Conley during their chaotic loss on the road to the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Clippers hosted the Jazz at Crypto.com Arena on Monday, November 21.

Utah fell to Los Angeles, 121-114.

The Jazz didn’t miss Conley’s 10.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 0.3 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game as much as they missed the 16-year veteran’s 7.9 assists per contest and his ability to control the offense. Conley reportedly avoided a serious knee injury during Utah’s previous game, a win over the Portland Trail Blazers. However, the injury kept him out against the Clippers.

It was a chaotic contest during multiple segments of action, some in favor of the Jazz, and helped Utah battle back from a 17-point deficit to take the lead in the third quarter. Other moments were disorganized and resulted in the Jazz letting the lead slip away midway through the final quarter.

Besides Lauri Markkanen’s play, the Jazz struggled out of the gate and fell behind by 10 points heading into the second quarter thanks to six turnovers in the first 12 minutes. Utah’s offense got things going in the second quarter, but the Jazz went into the halftime break down, 66-56.

After the break, the Jazz got back into the game thanks to a big third quarter by Talen Horton-Tucker and Markkanen. The Jazz hustled and played with pace. That combo helped Utah score 37 points and limited Los Angeles to only 22 points in the first 12 minutes of the second half.

However, in the fourth quarter, the Jazz turned the ball over six times (17 in the game) and struggled to score in key moments.

Clippers guard Reggie Jackson controlled the contest late and helped L.A. win the final 12 minutes of game time by 12 points.

Jazz by the numbers

The Jazz ended up shooting 44.9 percent from the field, including 31.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Jordan Clarkson led the Jazz with 26 points four assists, one steal, and a block. Markkanen added 25 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, one steal, and a block.

Collin Sexton started in place of Conley and was one of three Jazz guards that posted a negative rating while on the court, joining Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Malik Beasley.

Talen-Horton Tucker carried Utah’s second unit with 14 points.

Norman Powell led L.A. with 30 points. Jackson poured in 27.

Up Next

With the loss, the Jazz dropped to a 12-7 record this season, including 6-6 away from Vivint Arena.

Utah’s next game is at home against former Jazzman Bojan Bogdanovic and the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons vs. Jazz game will tip-off on Wednesday, November 23 at 7 p.m. (MDT). The game will be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet, NBA League Pass, and KSL Sports Zone.
