Utah Valley Evens Season Series With Seattle, Wins Fifth-Straight

SALT LAKE CITY – Le’Tre Darthard’s 19 points helped WAC-leading Utah Valley to their fifth-straight victory, 67-58 over Seattle.

Utah Valley (21-6, 12-2) traveled to the Pacific Northwest where they took on the Seattle Redhawks (18-10, 9-6) on Saturday, February 18.

Leaders in the Western Athletic Conference standings, UVU is 8-4 on the road and comes in riding a four-game winnings streak. The Wolverines survived a nail-biter against in-state rival Southern Utah on February 11. Earlier that week, Utah Valley knocked off the Lancers of Cal Baptist 71-55. Seattle dropped their last game, losing 84-63 at California Baptist on February 15.

Earlier this season, the Redhawks put an end to an 11-game Wolverine winning streak. UVU battled but couldn’t overcome a late deficit before falling 85-80 back on January 14.

Darthard’s 19 points led four Wolverines in double figures. Trey Woodbury scored 11 while collecting eight rebounds and three assists. Justin Harmon and Tim Fuller added 10 points apiece. Aziz Bandaogo finished with only eight points but a game high 17 rebounds.

Alex Schumacher led the Redhawks with 19 points on 7-of-18 shooting. Riley Grigsby finished with seven points and a team-high ten rebounds.

It was a slow developing first half as both teams struggled from the field. It took a full eight minutes for either team to reach double figures with a Tim Ceaser three giving UVU a 10-9 lead with 11:56 to go in the first half.

Neither squad would gain much of an advantage early as Seattle took a 24-21 halftime lead.

After the break, Utah Valley’s defense took hold and the offense was able to generate more than enough scoring.

Seattle finished by missing 12 of their final 14 shots on the way to a 67-58 loss.

Utah Valley will be in Texas for a pair of games next week. The Wolverines take on the Tarleton State Texans (14-13, 7-7) on Thursday, February 23. Tip-off for this game is scheduled for 6 p.m. (MT).

UVU then heads to Abilene, Texas where they will face the Abilene Christian Wildcats (15-13, 7-8) in a 5 p.m. (MT) tip on Saturday, February 25.
