BYU Reliever Lands On Big 12 Baseball Preseason Team

SALT LAKE CITY – From the outside, not much is expected of the BYU and Utah baseball programs as the rivals play in the same conference for the first time since 2011. The Utes enter their first season in the Big 12 projected 12th out of 14 teams, while BYU was picked dead last.
Despite the low team expectations, BYU relief pitcher Stone Cushing is one of three relievers named the Big 12 All-Preseason team.
The Big 12 Conference released its baseball preseason poll and all-Big 12 preseason team on Thursday, January 23. The Oklahoma State Cowboys soared to the top of the 2025 Big 12 preseason poll, followed closely by Arizona and TCU.

BYU stumbled to a 21-31 record last season, finishing 7-23 in the Big 12.

Utah surged to the top of the Pac-12 in April before tripping up down the stretch. The Utes went 33-22, going 16-14 in their final year of Pac-12 play.

The Utes open the 2025 season on Valentine’s Day with a four-game series against Pepperdine on Friday, February 14. Utah opens its final season at Smith’s Ballpark on March 18 against Northern Colorado.
BYU will also be in the Golden State on Valentine’s Day. The Cougars open the season with a four-game set against the Fresno State Bulldogs. BYU’s home schedule begins on Wednesday, March 5, against Stetson.
