SALT LAKE CITY – Have we all had a moment to catch our breath from last week’s chaos in Big 12 basketball?

What a week.

It started with the wild finish between Arizona and Iowa State, where Caleb Love dropped a 60-footer at the horn to send the game into overtime. Then Love took over from there.

Houston and Iowa State’s longstanding home win streaks came to a shocking end in a wild Saturday of Big 12 basketball.

The Coogs fell to a Quad 1 opponent in Texas Tech, but the Red Raider squad was without JT Toppin due to an egregious ejection. That led to Tech head coach Grant McCasland getting the boot as well. Then, star Darrion Williams fouled out in the second half.

Despite all of that, Tech went into the Fertitta Center and handed Houston its first-ever Big 12 home loss.

Iowa State lost at Hilton Coliseum in a Quad 3 setback to the Kansas State Wildcats. Not only did the Cyclones lose, but they were dominated, losing by 19 points.

Kansas led Baylor by 21 points in Waco in the first half. Yet, they lost by 11. The Bears were without Langston Love and Jeremy Roach for the game. Then VJ Edgecombe was sidelined for most of the second half. It was a tough loss for the Jayhawks but a huge win for Baylor, which should climb seed lines.

Big 12 Basketball Power Rankings: Week 14 Edition

Take a look at the week 14 Big 12 basketball power rankings.

Previous Power Rankings

Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Week 6 | Week 7 | Week 8 & 9 | Week 10 | Week 11 | Week 12 | Week 13 |

1. Texas Tech (17-4, 8-2 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 3 (Up 2)

Last Week

  • Texas Tech 71, TCU 57
  • Texas Tech 82, Houston 81 (OT; Road Win)

This Week

  • Tuesday, February 4: vs. Baylor
  • Saturday, February 8: at Arizona

Guns up! Texas Tech belongs atop the power rankings after a breakthrough win at Houston. That’s a win that should count for two victories. The Red Raiders are undefeated in Big 12 road games.

2. Houston (17-4, 9-1 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 1 (Down 1)

Last Week

  • Houston 63, West Virginia 49 (Road Win)
  • Texas Tech 82, Houston 81 (OT; Home Loss)

This Week

  • Tuesday, February 4: vs. Oklahoma State
  • Saturday, February 8: at Colorado

Houston’s 33-game home win streak comes to an end. Three of the Coogs’ losses this season are in overtime. Houston will bounce back, and they have a revenge opportunity later this month against Texas Tech, which will be a must-see in Lubbock.

3. Arizona (15-6, 9-1 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 4 (Up 1)

Last Week

  • Arizona 86, Iowa State 75 (OT)
  • Arizona 81, Arizona State 72 (Road Win)

This Week

  • Tuesday, February 4: at BYU
  • Saturday, February 8: vs. Texas Tech

The McKale Center had a memorable moment in its Big 12 era. Arizona pulled off a miracle over Iowa State and followed it up with a physical win over Arizona State.

The Wildcats are leading the Big 12 standings, but this week will test whether they are built to win a regular-season title.

4. Iowa State (17-4, 7-3 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 2 (Down 2)

Last Week

  • Arizona 86, Iowa State 75 (OT)
  • Kansas State 80, Iowa State 61 (Home Loss)

This Week

  • Monday, February 3: at Kansas
  • Saturday, February 8: vs. TCU

Last week, Curtis Jones didn’t perform as efficiently as we’ve grown accustomed to this season, and the Cyclones lost two games. It’s not that simple, but it was something of note in a rare winless week for Iowa State.

The Cyclones will bounce back, but that Quad 3 loss to K-State was shocking.

5. BYU (15-6, 6-4 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 9 (Up 4)

Last Week

  • BYU 93, Baylor 89 (OT)
  • BYU 81, UCF 75 (Road Win)

This Week

  • Tuesday, February 4: vs. Arizona
  • Saturday, February 8: at Cincinnati

BYU is on a four-game win streak in Big 12 basketball play and is figuring things out on the road. They pulled off a Quad 1 victory at UCF and Richie Saunders is one of the most efficient offensive players in the league.

6. Baylor (14-7, 6-4 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 7 (Up 1)

Last Week

  • BYU 93, Baylor 89 (OT)
  • Baylor 81, Kansas 70

This Week

  • Tuesday, February 4: at Texas Tech
  • Saturday, February 8: vs. UCF

Baylor was sliding in Bracketology projections; they desperately needed that comeback win over Kansas. This team is banged up, and that’s putting it lightly.

7. Kansas (15-6, 6-4 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 5 (Down 2)

Last Week

  • Kansas 91, UCF 87
  • Baylor 81, Kansas 70

This Week

  • Monday, February 3: vs. Iowa State
  • Saturday, February 8: at Kansas State

Kansas had its largest blown lead in a game in program history in the setback at Baylor. The creation of basketball points to Lawrence, and for them to pull a first like that is not a good look.

As we all know, the Big 12 grind doesn’t ease up with a home game against Iowa State and then a rivalry clash in Manhattan against a trending-up K-State team.

8. Kansas State (10-11, 4-6 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 14 (Up 6)

Last Week

  • K-State 85, Oklahoma State 57
  • K-State 80, Iowa State 61 (Road Win)

This Week

  • Tuesday, February 4: at Arizona State
  • Saturday, February 8: vs. Kansas

Jerome Tang received loud boos from Iowa State fans in Ames after last year’s accusations to the Cyclones of spying. Instead of folding in the hostile environment, the Wildcats knocked down 50% from three, rolling through Iowa State to end their long home win streak.

Coleman Hawkins was perfect from long range, and Dug McDaniel also found his shot from beyond the arc.

9. West Virginia (14-7, 5-5 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 6 (Down 3)

Last Week

  • Houston 63, West Virginia 49 (Home Loss)
  • West Virginia 63, Cincinnati 50 (Road Win)

This Week

  • Wednesday, February 5: at TCU
  • Saturday, February 8: vs. Utah

10. UCF (13-8, 4-6 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 8 (Down 2)

Last Week

  • Kansas 91, UCF 87
  • BYU 81, UCF 75 (Home Loss)

This Week

  • Wednesday, February 5: vs. Cincinnati
  • Saturday, February 8: at Baylor

11. Arizona State (12-9, 3-7 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 11

Last Week

  • Arizona State 70, Colorado 68 (Road Win)
  • Arizona 81, Arizona State 72 (Home Loss)

This Week

  • Tuesday, February 4: vs. Kansas State
  • Sunday, February 9: at Oklahoma State

12. TCU (11-10, 4-6 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 10 (Down 2)

Last Week

  • Texas Tech 71, TCU 57
  • TCU 68, Colorado 57

This Week

  • Wednesday, February 5: vs. West Virginia
  • Saturday, February 8: at Iowa State

13. Utah (12-9, 4-6 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 12 (Down 1)

Last Week

  • Utah 69, Cincinnati 66
  • Oklahoma State 81, Utah 72

This Week

  • Wednesday, February 5: vs. Colorado
  • Saturday, February 8: at West Virginia

14. Oklahoma State (11-10, 3-7 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 15 (Up 1)

Last Week

  • Kansas State 85, Oklahoma State 57
  • Oklahoma State 81, Utah 72

This Week

  • Tuesday, February 4: at Houston
  • Sunday, February 9: vs. Arizona State

15. Cincinnati (12-9, 2-8 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 13 (Down 2)

Last Week

  • Utah 69, Cincinnati 66
  • West Virginia 63, Cincinnati 50 (Home Loss)

This Week

  • Wednesday, February 5: at UCF
  • Saturday, February 8: vs. BYU

16. Colorado (9-12, 0-10 Big 12)

Last week’s power ranking: No. 16

Last Week

  • Arizona State 70, Colorado 68 (Home Loss)
  • TCU 68, Colorado 57

This Week

  • Wednesday, February 5: at Utah
  • Saturday, February 8: vs. Houston
