Pair Of Aggies Land On All-Mountain West Hoops Teams

LOGAN, Utah – Two Utah State Aggies have earned All-Mountain West honors following USU’s 25-6 regular season. Graduate senior Ian Martinez was named to the All-MW first team. Sophomore Mason Falslev was named to the second team. Falslev earned MW all-defense.
The Mountain West announced league awards on Tuesday, March 11. New Mexico’s Donovan Dent takes home MW Player of the Year, while Lobos head coach Richard Pitino was named MW Steve Fisher Coach of the Year. San Diego State’s Magoon Gwath was the only player to earn two awards: Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year.

Falslev was a four-time MW Player of the Week this season, the second most in league history for an underclassman. This is his first all-Mountain West recognition. He was twice recognized as the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week.

The Benson, Utah native was a stat-sheet stuffer all year, scoring 16.9 points and adding 3.7 assists, both second on the team. He led USU with 6.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. His 71 steals tie for the third most in Aggie history. All four marks were top-ten in the conference.

Ian Martinez followed up his 2023-24 honorable mention campaign with All-MW first-team honors as a graduate senior. He was named to the league’s preseason team in October.
The fifth-year high-flyer led USU in scoring and was fifth in the MW with 16.9 points a night. He became the first Aggie to reach double-figures in every game since Jaycee Carroll in 2007-08. His streak of 34 consecutive ten-plus point games is the third longest in the country.

Martinez added 3.4 boards and nearly three assists per night. His 72 made threes are the third most in the league, and his 88.8 percent free throw rate leads the MW and is 21st in the country.

The Mountain West Men’s Basketball Championships will be held from Wednesday, March 12, through Saturday, March 15, at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Third-seeded Utah State earned a bye into the MW Championships quarterfinals on Thursday, March 13, at 9:30 p.m.
The Aggies face the winner of No. 6 UNLV vs. No. 11 Air Force.
