SALT LAKE CITY – The Utes pick up their fourth commitment of the weekend, as Orem three-star defensive back Aisa Galea’i has announced his pledge to Kyle Whittingham’s Utah football program.

He was part of the final group of official visitors who wrapped up their visits this weekend. He is now the 11th commit of Utah’s 2026 class.

Defensive back Aisa Galea’i commits to Utah football

Galea’i is one of the top defensive backs in the region. He was super productive last season when he tallied 82 total tackles, 11 for loss, while notching six interceptions, seven pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and one recovery. That sort of ballhawking production is coveted by Utah.

He holds 17 offers overall, including Arizona, Arizona State, Miami, Oregon, and Washington. He’s seen his recruitment boil down to three teams – BYU, UCLA, and Utah. He’s visited the other two programs earlier this month and spent the final weekend in Salt Lake City with the Utes.

Galea’i is rated an 87 three-star, ranking him the No. 10 player in the state and the No. 71 safety in the 2026 class.

Galea’i was part of the group that included five-star OT Felix Ojo, four-star WRs Jaron & Kennan Pula, three-star DB Dylan Waters, three-star WR Perrion Williams, and three-star OL Rowdy Pearce.

He becomes Utah’s 11th commit of the class, joining running back LaMarcus Bell, edge Prestion Pitts, quarterback Michael Johnson, linebacker LaGary Mitchell, cornerback Major Hinchen, safety Carter Stewart, tight end Bear Fisher, receiver Perrion Williams, offensive lineman Rowdy Pearce, and defensive lineman Javion Ramon.

How does Aisa Galea’i fit with Utah football?

Galea’i combines the ideal blend of size and agility in a modern defensive back. At around 6-foot-1 and a fluid 185 pounds, he covers ground with ease—closing on sideline-to-sideline throws in a hurry.

His years on the basketball court show in his footwork and hand-eye coordination: he slips through traffic, leaps to swat away passes, and corrals errant throws with soft, reliable hands. He has the twitchy athleticism to mirror shifty slot receivers in tight quarters.

What truly sets Galea’i apart is his ball-hawking instincts. He has an uncanny sense for where the quarterback wants to place the ball, allowing him to break on routes with surgical precision, whether that means breaking up a crucial third-down throw or snatching an interception and flipping field position in an instant.

Beyond his coverage prowess, Galea’i is a physical presence in run support. He tackles through contact without hesitation, wrapping up ball carriers with textbook form and effort that belies his position.

His frame offers ample room to add 10–15 pounds of functional strength—enough to bully slot receivers at the point of attack or stand up to bigger tight ends—without sacrificing the speed and flexibility that make him such a dynamic playmaker in the secondary.

All in all, this is a big addition to the Utes’ 2026 class. Galea’i has been a priority for Morgan Scalley and the defensive staff.
