SALT LAKE CITY – The Hunter Wolverines denied a two-point conversion in overtime to come out with a one-point win over the Hillcrest Huskies in week five of 5A high school football on Friday.

The Huskies scored 21 points in the second quarter and led 28-12 at the break. After a scoreless third quarter, Hunter tied the score with 16 in the fourth.

The Wolverines scored first in OT, but allowed Hillcrest to come back with six of their own. They opted to go for two and the win, but got stopped short. Hunter improved to 2-3 with the 35-34 win.

Region 4

Cyprus Pirates 7 @ West Jordan Jaguars 38

The West Jordan Jaguars scored 38 unanswered points starting in the second quarter of their win over the Cyprus Pirates in week five. The second quarter started with a safety and back-to-back touchdown throws to Porter Creasy from 80 and 30 yards. Quarterback Ayden Dunn threw another 80-yard bomb to Nia Ioapo in the third quarter.

Granger Lancers 46 @ Taylorsville Warriors 7

The Granger Lancers made sure there was no doubt as they scored 22 points in the third quarter of their win over the Taylorsville Warriors. Granger led 24-7 at halftime. Quarterback Owen Griffin threw five touchdowns; two went to Uli Figiel, and another two went to Mateni Puamau.

Kearns Cougars 0 @ No. 8 West Panthers 61

The West Panthers scored 20 points in both the second and third quarters in their big win over the Kearns Cougars in week five. West running back Louie Hamilton punched in four scores on the ground. Manu Tua’one had a receiving score and also returned a punt for six in the first quarter.

Region 5

West Field Longhorns 61 @ Bonneville Lakers 21

The West Field Longhorns scored 27 points in the second quarter of their win over the Bonneville Lakers on Friday. Quarterback Easton Eilertson had seven total touchdowns, six coming through the air. Both Gavin Ortegon and Jaden Fowers scored three touchdowns.

No. 20 Box Elder Bees 49 @ Roy Royals 14

The Box Elder Bees dropped 29 points in the third quarter as they cruised to a blowout win over the Roy Royals in week five. The Bees scored six touchdowns on the ground. Both Kadyn Reyes and Judd Howells punched in two. Korbin Jeppesen also had a 98-yard kick return TD to start the second half.

No. 5 Fremont Silverwolves 63 @ Clearfield Falcons 6

Region 5 in 5A week five was full of blowouts, and the Fremont Silverwolves continued that trend with a big win over the Clearfield Falcons. Fremont scored 21 points in the first quarter and followed that with 28 in the second. Both Salesi Moa and Slade Parker had two receiving touchdowns. The Silverwolves also had a return touchdown and a pick-six.

Region 7

No. 12 Orem Tigers 63 @ Spanish Fork Dons 3

Just like the Fremont game, the Orem Tigers scored 21 points in the quarter and added 28 in the next in their win over the Spanish Fork Dons on Friday. Orem had seven rushing touchdowns, and each one came from a different player. Kaue Akana had a receiving TD, and JaVoni Halalilo had a pick-six.

Pleasant Grove Vikings 17 @ No. 15 Springville Red Devils 35

The Springville Red Devils took care of business on Friday, starting and ending the game strong to defeat the Pleasant Grove Vikings. 28 of Sprinville’s 35 points came in the first and fourth quarters. Both Lisiate Valeti and Tuiono Valeti had two touchdowns.

No. 25 Wasatch Wasps 14 @ Timpview Thunderbirds 33

The Timpview Thunderbirds took an early lead and sailed to a convincing win over the Wasatch Wasps at home on Friday. Leading 16-0 at the break, Timpview opened the second half with a quick scoring drive. Wasatch got on the board with a defensive touchdown later in the quarter, but the effort was too little, too late.

Maple Mountain Golden Eagles 42 @ Payson Lions 28

The Maple Mountain Golden Eagles scored 21 points in the first quarter and cruised to a two-score win over the Payson Lions in week five. Payson scored once in each quarter, but they ultimately couldn’t keep up with the Golden Eagles’ potent attack.

Non-Region

Northridge Knights 25 @ Logan Grizzlies (3A) 19

The Northridge Knights picked up their second win of the season, even though the door was open for a late Logan Grizzlies comeback. Leading 25-12 heading into the fourth, Northridge allowed Logan to find the end zone and make it a one-score game. They were able to hold onto the early lead and came out on top as the clock hit zero. Northridge QB Liam Fresques threw two touchdowns in the win.

No. 6 Davis Darts (6A) 42 @ Olympus Titans 14

The Davis Darts opened the game with 28 unanswered points and were able to sail to an uncontested win over the Olympus Titans on Friday. Quarterback Tradon Bessinger threw six passing touchdowns. Three went to Bode Sparrow, two went to Makaio Byrd, and Isaac Morrison pulled in the sixth.

Somerset Academy Losee (NV) 6 @ Viewmont Vikings 41

After the first quarter ended in a7-6 lead for the Viewmont Vikings, they took off to pick up a big win over the Somerset Academy Losee Lions on Friday. Viewmont QB Jack Savage had five passing touchdowns, three of which went to Jayson Dunroe. They capped off the win with an 84-yard heave to Brady Clegg.

No. 24 Park City Miners (4A) 6 @ Bountiful Redhawks 14

The Bountiful Redhawks prevailed over the Park City Miners in a defensive-minded week five contest. Park City was limited to two field goals, while Bountiful’s Siaki Fekitoa caught two touchdown passes to give the Redhawks their second win of the season.
