Utah Vs Wyoming For Week 3: Game Preview, Score Prediction

Laramie, WY. — After a confident home performance against Cal Poly, Kyle Whittingham and his Utah Utes now hit the road for War Memorial Stadium and a Week 3 showdown at Wyoming. Here’s a game preview and score prediction for Saturday night’s contest.

The Cowboys, a program that has been fairly competitive in the Mountain West, bring a physical brand of football to the matchup. Utah needs a sharp performance and, more importantly, to show improvement in certain aspects of the game from last week.

Wyoming’s home-field advantage is significant; War Memorial Stadium is known for its altitude, noise, and passionate fans. How Utah’s veterans and newcomers respond to this environment will provide insight into the team’s mental toughness.

For Utah, this is a test of execution and poise in a hostile environment—particularly for Devon Dampier and the offense.

Utah vs. Wyoming: The Willing Recipe

Utah enters this game with advantages in speed, size, and depth, but Wyoming’s physicality and familiarity with high-altitude home games could neutralize some of that edge. Success will hinge on execution in three areas:

  1. Establishing the run: Utah’s offensive line must control the line of scrimmage to set up play-action passes and keep Dampier comfortable. Efficiency in early downs will be critical. Dampier and Eli Sanders each ran for 200 yards last season against Wyoming. Could Utah replicate a similar performance?
  2. Defensive discipline: Wyoming thrives on creating pressure and forcing turnovers. Utah’s secondary, led by veterans like Smith Snowden and emerging leaders like Jackson Bennee, must limit big plays and avoid penalties that could swing momentum.
  3. Special teams impact: In tight road environments, field position matters. Punt coverage, returns, and accuracy on kicks will be under scrutiny.

Devon Dampier’s revenge?

The junior quarterback has been super solid through two games. Going back to last season, Dampier and the New Mexico Lobos lost to the Cowboys, 49-45, in tough fashion. Dampier was fantastic, but a costly mistake in the 4th quarter hurt the Lobos’ chances at the win.

Now, Dampier enters this matchup with Utah and an opportunity to showcase his year-over-year improvement. He will need to be dynamic and assertive in the run game, while also efficient in the passing game.

The Cowboys have been fairly stout and stingy on defense, but the level of competition has not been great. Utah should be able to dictate terms in this matchup, so long as they show up and take care of business.

This should be an opportunity for Dampier and the offense to get some final fine-tuning before conference play begins.

Utah vs Wyoming Score Prediction

Wyoming will test Utah’s discipline and composure, but the Utes’ talent, coaching, and preparation should prevail. If Dampier and the offense can click early, that will set the tone for the game. The defense should contain Wyoming’s key threats, but all eyes will be on the defensive secondary’s performance. Utah should be able to pressure the Wyoming backfield as well.

Projected Score: Utah 41, Wyoming 13
