Locals In The NFL: Week Three Player Power Rankings

The fourth week of the NFL season is upon us, which means it’s time for the fourth edition of our NFL locals player power rankings.
Storylines are starting to take shape. Rising stars are breaking through, and undefeated teams are fighting to stay perfect as we near the quarter mark of the season.
Here’s where our rankings stand heading into week four.

KSL Sports Locals In The NFL Power Rankings
Beginning this NFL season, we’ll post weekly player power rankings that shift as players make their mark.
These rankings are subjective — comparing offensive linemen to defensive backs, and quarterbacks to linebackers will never be perfect.
Early in the season, past production is somewhat taken into account alongside what we’ve seen so far and expectations for the rest of the season. Enough build-up, let’s get to the list.
Honorable Mentions
These are players who are in the mix but on the outside looking in. An argument can be made for each one of these guys, but they failed to make the top ten for one reason or another.
Tyler Allgeier (BYU, Falcons RB), Kyle Van Noy (BYU, Ravens LB), Dalton Kincaid (Utah, Bills TE), Jonah Elliss (Utah, Broncos LB), Cody Barton (Utah, Titans LB), Clark Phillips III (Utah, Falcons CB), Dalton Schultz (Bingham High, Texans TE), Taysom Hill (BYU, Saints TE), Kaden Elliss (Judge Memorial High, Falcons LB)
Two former Utes, cornerback Jaylon Johnson and safety Julian Blackmon, would make the top ten but have been ruled out for the foreseeable future with injuries.

10. Jackson Hawes – Highland High – Bills TE
A first-timer in our rankings and a first-timer in the NFL, rookie tight end Jackson Hawes comes in at No. 10 after week three.
Heading into last week, Hawes was the No. 1-rated tight end in the league according to PFF’s offensive grade. Their grading system is based on a play-by-play approach that prioritizes execution over the result.
Used mostly as a blocker on the edge of the line, Hawes caught his first career touchdown in week three, so we felt he deserved some recognition in the rankings.

9. Devin Lloyd – Utah – Jaguars LB
Another first-timer on our list, former Utah Utes linebacker Devin Lloyd.
After a slower start to his career, Lloyd has quietly begun to piece together one of the best starts to a season through four years in the NFL. Through three games, he has 15 tackles, one fumble recovery, one interception, and a pass breakup.
He has a 90.2 PFF defense grade through these games, which places him as the 14th-best defensive player in the league. His career high for a season so far has been a 78.1 defensive grade.
8. Taron Johnson – Weber State – Bills CB
Former Weber State cornerback Taron Johnson returns to the top ten after a short hiatus on the outside looking in.
His coverage numbers have been relatively lackluster so far this year, but he has made up for it in other areas. In week three, he led the Bills’ defense with eight total tackles (six solo), one tackle for loss, and a pass breakup.
7. Jaylen Warren – East High – Steelers RB
Former East High running back Jaylen Warren cooled off a bit from his first two weeks, but was still solid enough to hold onto a spot in the top ten.
Through three games, Warren is the 33rd-best running back and fifth-best receiving running back, according to PFF grades.
Coming out of the backfield, Warren has been one of Aaron Rodgers’ favorite targets early in his first season with the Steelers.
6. Penei Sewell – Desert Hills High – Lions OT
The biggest dropper in our list is Desert Hills star offensive lineman Penei Sewell.
Two weeks ago, he was ranked second. Now he finds himself all the way down at sixth. Performance in previous seasons is starting to hold less and less weight.
Despite being ranked as the best offensive lineman in the NFL by his peers on the annual top 100 list, Sewell is ranked as the 53rd offensive lineman through three weeks.
5. Garett Bolles – Utah – Broncos OT
Who does PFF have as the No. 1 offensive lineman through three weeks? Former Utah Ute Garett Bolles.
After some questionable run blocking in the first two weeks, Bolles picked it up in week three and had an 85 or higher blocking grade on both pass and run plays in week three.
He has allowed zero sacks, zero quarterback hits, zero hurries, and zero pressures over the last two weeks.

4. Jordan Love – Utah State – Packers QB
Last week, I mentioned that I wanted to put former Utah State quarterback Jordan Love in the top three but decided to give him one more week to earn it. It’s a good thing I did that.
In week three, the Packers lost their first game, and Love threw his first interception, one that allowed Cleveland to add to their comeback late in the game.
He still had 183 yards and a touchdown, so No. 4 feels like a good landing spot for the former Aggie.
3. Bobby Wagner – Utah State – Commanders LB
Another former Aggie, Washington’s Bobby Wagner, had his best game of the season in week three, securing his top-three ranking.
With 11 total tackles (six solo), two sacks, two tackles for loss, and three quarterback hits, Wagner had a 92.0 PFF pass rush grade. So far this season, he has eclipsed a 90.0 grade in overall defense, run defense, and pass rush defense, and he has never dipped below an 82.0 tackling grade.
2. Puka Nacua – BYU – Rams WR
Our top two continue to hold strong, and it starts with former BYU wide receiver Puka Nacua at No. 2.
He passed 100 yards receiving for the second time in three games against the Eagles. PFF has Nacua as the No. 1 graded wide receiver in the NFL. Enough said.
1. Fred Warner – BYU – 49ers LB
Speaking of enough said, I could have just put former BYU linebacker Fred Warner’s name here, and we could have gone on our way. But I’ll gladly give him his flowers.
Once again, Warner was graded as the second-best defensive player and best linebacker in the NFL after week three.
He surpassed double-digit tackles with 11 (five solo) and two pass breakups as the Niners remained undefeated.
