SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz opened their two-game road trip by beating the Brooklyn Nets 123-110, securing their first set of back-to-back victories this season.

Lauri Markkanen led the Jazz with 30 points, while Keyonte George added 29 points and 10 assists in the win.

Fourth-Quarter Utah Jazz Surge Seals the Win

Despite facing a Nets team that had won only five games all season and was missing leading scorers Michael Porter Jr. and Cam Thomas, the Jazz battled through a tougher contest than expected.

Brooklyn built a 15-point lead midway through the game and entered the fourth quarter with a nine-point advantage before the Jazz found their rhythm and stormed to their second road win of the year.

“We felt like we were in the game for the most part, the whole game, even though we weren’t playing well,” George said. “Then, in the fourth quarter, we started making shots, getting to the paint, [and] had some energy.”

The Jazz shot well from three throughout the night but managed only 18 attempts against Brooklyn’s defense over the first three quarters.

Kyle Anderson, who played 17 minutes in the absence of the injured Jusuf Nurkic, scored six points in the final period to spark the comeback. Then, the Jazz’s superior passing created a flurry of wide-open threes to finish the job.

“Your job is to kick the ball out and let your teammates make quick decisions,” coach Will Hardy said of the offense. “I thought Lauri ended up being the recipient of those initial actions, people doing a good job primarily, and then the ball movement ends up finding him. It’s nice to see him get a couple of clean ones.”

Over the final 12 minutes, the Jazz shot 6-of-8 from deep and 14-of-22 overall, dished out 12 assists, and committed just one turnover in one of their most impressive quarters this season.

They outscored Brooklyn 42-20 in the frame and coasted to victory over the final five minutes of the game.

Walt Clayton Jr. Carving Out Bigger Role

Coach Hardy called Walt Clayton Jr.’s performance against Houston on Monday the best of his young, but Thursday’s effort may have topped it.

The rookie followed his eight-point, five-rebound, six-assist outing against the Rockets with 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists in Brooklyn. The Jazz were 22 points better than the Nets during Clayton Jr.’s 24 minutes.

Notably, he played the entire fourth quarter and logged nearly 10 more minutes than fellow guard Isaiah Collier, who finished -20 in 15 minutes.

Clayton Jr. has now outpaced Collier in minutes for three straight games, mostly in second halves of tight contests.

While he’s still searching for his three-point stroke, his defense, playmaking, and downhill drives have brought stability to an inconsistent Jazz bench.
