Utah State Basketball Gets Back In Win Column Against Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — After dropping its first game of the season earlier in the week, Utah State basketball came back with a vengeance to blow out the Charlotte 49ers on Sunday.

Mason Falslev did it all for the Aggies at Halton Arena. The junior guard finished with 22 points, five rebounds, six assists, and four steals. MJ Collins Jr. and Karson Templin also finished in double figures with 18 and 12 points, respectively.

USU now returns to Utah to play three of the next four in the Beehive State.

First Half

At first, it appeared the road woes were still affecting the Aggies.

With the home crowd at their backs, the 49ers held the lead for almost all of the first 12 minutes.

It was Collins who was the early hero for USU, scoring 9 of the Aggies’ first 17 points. With 8:41 left in the first half, Utah State tied the score at 17-17.

This is when the game really broke open, really, for both teams.

There were 34 points scored over the first 11 minutes and change. The final 8:40 had 40 points, and Utah State went on a 27-13 run.

Templin led the charge, with seven straight to put USU up by five. Eventually, Falslev got involved, and that duo would score 20 of the 27 points to close the half.

Despite only two three-point makes in the first half, USU had everything going inside the paint, and they led 44-30 at the break.

Second Half

The second half was all Aggies.

They built on the momentum established at the end of the first half and buried Charlotte.

The lead hit 20 points about seven minutes into the half and wouldn’t dip back under for the rest of the game.

Drake Allen and Tucker Anderson stepped up in the second half, scoring all 10 of their combined points after the break.

By the final horn, every Aggie with more than one minute played scored a bucket.

The 79-53 win moved Utah State up to 8-1 overall and 1-1 on the road.
