Eric Kjar Leaves Corner Canyon for Weber State: Will Isaac Wilson Follow?

OGDEN, Utah – With his own college football future undecided, former Corner Canyon QB Isaac Wilson used social media to wish former CC head coach Eric Kjar luck at Weber State.
The six-time Utah state football champion was announced as the 13th head coach in program history on Tuesday, December 16.
“Weber State is really lucky to get Eric Kjar,” Wilson wrote. “Best coach ever!!! He has help so many along the way. Helped get a 4 Wilson boys a scholarship. Best of luck, even though you won’t need it.”

“I think the main reason why I was so interested in this job is just how good they are up here, or what I feel like they can be,” Kjar said in an exclusive interview with DJ & PK on KSL Sports Zone following his hiring.
Kjar controlled the 6A high school football scene in Utah with a 112-10 record in his nine seasons with the Chargers.
Under his tutelage, Corner Canyon earned two 6A championship three-peats (2018-2020, 2023-2025) and was the state runner-up in 2021 and 2022.
He is 181-39 as a high school coach, which includes eight seasons and a 2012 state title with the Jordan Beetdiggers.
“There’s a lot of people that care about Weber State football. The admin cares about it, and it’s important to them,” Kjar stated. “Being so close to Utah, just the talent in Utah, and really how much it’s unrecruited, I think it’s really a valuable place where I feel like we can get in here and hit Utah hard. Bring a lot of good kids and a lot of fun into the program, and create some excitement in Utah about Weber State football.”

Following two tumultuous seasons at the University of Utah, Wilson entered the transfer portal.

“There’s kids I’m already looking at here that, since I’ve been here, that I know are underrecruited, that we’re going to go after hard, that I know can play here and help us build something special,” Kjar emphasized without naming individuals. “We’re going to get the other kids that I know are damn good football players that will do a great job here and in our program.”

Wilson set a Utah state record and was second in the nation with 5,901 yards of offense as a senior in 2023. He threw for more than 4,500 yards and 49 touchdowns, and ran for 1,304 yards and 13 scores in Kjar’s fast-paced offensive system.
The first-year college head coach is well aware that how he fills the quarterback position in Ogden will be a determining factor in his ultimate success with the Wildcats.
“The biggest piece with that is just to continue to be really good at the quarterback position,” Kjar cautioned. “I think that’s any modern-day college football. I think that piece, you have to be really good there. So that’s going to be always something we’ll try to do really well.”

Dropping down to the FCS level with Weber State would be a dramatic step down in competition from the Big 12 and Utah. Still, the transfer portal has shown in recent years that finding the right system to showcase your skills is often as important as playing in a big program.
There’s little doubt Kjar will make a call, but is Wilson willing to listen?
