Utah Native Casey Dawson Drops Out Of Men’s 10000m Speed Skating Race

MILAN, Italy — Utah native and Team USA speed skater Casey Dawson withdrew from the Speed Skating Men’s 10000m event at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics today.
With his decision, the U.S. had no racer in the event. Czechia’s Metodej Jilek won gold, with Poland’s Vladimir Semirunniy and Nehterland’s Jorrit Bergsma claiming silver and bronze.

Dawson opened his second Olympics in the 5000m on Sunday, February 8. After a slow start, he came in after his pairing and finished eighth overall.
Reports say his focus will be on the Team Pursuit and 1500m races.
The 1500m quarterfinals will start at 12:15 p.m. (MT) on Saturday, February 14. The semifinals and two final rounds will follow later in the afternoon.
The Team Pursuit event will open on Sunday, February 15. The semifinal and final rounds take place on Tuesday, February 17, from 6:30 to 8:47 a.m. (MT).
Prior to the Olympics, Dawson and his team set a world record in the Pursuit with a time of 3:32.49. The Olympic record was set at the Beijing Games in 2022 by Norway with a time of 3:36.62.
Dawson will race alongside Emery Lehman and Ethan Cepuran in the event starting on Sunday.
