SALT LAKE CITY — Utah football continues to build it’s 2027 recruiting class, adding another piece to its future defensive front with a commitment from Arizona three-star defensive lineman Tiki Teeples.

The 6-foot-4, 265-pound prospect out of Canyon View High School (Waddell, Arizona) gives the Utes a physically developed, multi-role lineman in the 2027 class — and another signal of where the program is placing its bets defensively under Morgan Scalley.

Tiki Teeples, versatile front-line addition

Teeples has built his profile on versatility. At Canyon View, he’s played across the defensive line while also contributing on offense — a reflection of both his athleticism and physical maturity at this stage of his development.

Recruiting services list him as a three-star prospect and one of the top defensive linemen in Arizona’s 2027 class, checking in around 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds.

That frame shows up on tape. Teeples plays with natural power at the point of attack, but what stands out more is his ability to move laterally and stay active through contact — traits that translate well in Utah’s defensive system.

Production backs it up, too. Teeples recorded double-digit sacks during his high school career to this point, flashing disruption ability rather than just space-eating traits.

He finished his junior campaign with 41 tackles, 18 for loss thanks to an impressive 12.5 sacks.

Recruitment trending upward

His offer sheet continued to grow throughout the early part of his recruitment, with programs across the Big 12 — including Texas Tech, Iowa State, West Virginia, and others — getting involved.

Utah only offered a month ago, which speaks to the emphasis the staff placed on landing him. He was on campus for Utah’s Junior Day, which included roughly 20 prospects.

For a staff that has emphasized evaluation and development under Scalley, that’s consistent with the broader approach: find traits, trust your board, and get in early.

How he fits at Utah

Teeples fit is pretty straight forward. Utah’s defensive identity — especially under Scalley and defensive coordinator Colton Swan — still starts in the trenches.

He plays with the necessary physicality at the line of scrimmage. He’ll eventually join Utah, where there should be depth at tackle, giving him time to properly develop.

He projects as a player who could grow into either an interior defensive lineman or a strong-side end, depending on body development. That kind of flexibility is critical in Utah’s system, which asks its front to adjust based on down-and-distance and personnel groupings rather than locking players into static roles.

Utah’s defensive line room continues to trend younger, with long-term depth still a priority given the volatility of the transfer portal and roster turnover.

The bigger picture

This commitment is less about immediate impact and more about trajectory. Utah is clearly doubling down on a few core recruiting principles:

  • Regional ties (Arizona continues to be a priority state)
  • Early identification of developmental prospects
  • Building depth in the trenches before it becomes a need

Teeples fits squarely into those three factors. He’s far from a finished product — and that’s the point. Utah is betting on what he becomes in two to three years inside its system, not just what he is today.

He joins Idaho edge rusher Jack Henderson and Texas receiver Kingston Parks in the 2027 class, allowing the staff to continue building momentum towards the summer recruiting months.

The Bottom Line

Tiki Teeples gives Utah another high-upside body in the 2027 class — a long, physical defensive lineman with positional flexibility and developmental runway.

It’s not a splash headline commitment but one that continues to fit the mold.

But it’s the kind of addition that has historically defined Utah’s defensive front: traits over hype, development over flash, and depth that eventually turns into production.
