OREM — Utah Valley women’s soccer opened the 2026 season battling to a 1-1 draw with Michigan after an hour-long weather delay Thursday night at UCCU Stadium.

Addie Olson’s goal was the difference for Utah Valley (0-0-1), which scored first in the 33rd minute to take a 1-0 halftime lead.

The senior from American Fork who recently transferred from BYU caught the end of a ball chipped high into the air by Sam Curtis in the 33rd minute, and Olson needed just one touch to fire the ball inside the far post for a 1-0 advantage that would stand through halftime.

But Adi Walick equalized in the 54th minute, sending a penalty kick by Utah Valley goalkeeper Madeleine Boucher to help Michigan (0-0-1) escape with a tie.

“At the end of the day, we don’t feel like we played to our best standard over the course of 90 minutes,” said Utah Valley coach Chris Lemay after beginning his 10th season in Orem. “Therefore, we drew. We feel strongly that had we given our best performance for the full 90 that the result could’ve gone better for us.”

The true freshman from Hamilton, Ontario, made five saves in her collegiate debut, which saw the host Wolverines out-shoot Michigan 14-13 and match the visiting Wolverines with six shots on target.

“We’ve got a lot of experience and returning players, but we do have some new players,” said Lemay, who praised his goalkeeper’s performance. “Obviously one of them came and scored the goal for us today.

“Addie had a brilliant finish,” he added, “and impacted positively. I thought (Boucher) was out of this world; she was really, really good. Sam Curtis gave us big minutes at central midfield, a true freshman who came in with great composure.”

Utah Valley returns to UCCU Stadium to host in-state rival Utah, which drew Weber State 0-0 in Wednesday night’s season opener, on Monday, Aug. 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. MT on ESPN+.
