SALT LAKE CITY – The Syracuse Titans returned to the win column thanks to a trio of receiving touchdowns from Bracken Lessey in a physical end to non-conference play with a 25-20 win.

The Alta Hawks hosted the Syracuse Titans in the Game Night Live Game of the Week on Friday, September 12.

First Quarter

After an Alta punt, Syracuse’s Ledger Wight showed off his scrambling abilities when he was flushed from the pocket on third down. He tucked the ball and picked up a ton of yardage, moving his team into Hawk territory.

The drive ended when a 60-yard field goal attempt from Skyler Orton fell short.

Alta’s second drive ended in a punt, but a well-placed ball was downed at the one-yard line. The first period ended with the Titans approaching the 50-yard line.

Second Quarter

Alta’s Evan Morton ended the drive with a highlight interception off a tip drill in the end zone. The turnover kept Syracuse off the scoreboard.

Alta drove deep into Titans territory before Lucas Pagel pushed the ball over the goal line with 2:06 left in the half.

The 16-play, 80-yard drive gave the Hawks a 7-0 lead.

Wight spearheaded a Titans drive that moved into Hawks territory on a big pass play. Bracken Lessey escaped the defensive coverage on the next play for an easy touchdown reception.

A two-point conversion gave Syracuse an 8-7 lead.

The Titans blocked a last-second Alta FG attempt to preserve the 8-7 halftime advantage.

A series of penalties and self-imposed mistakes on both sides marred the opening 24 minutes.

Third Quarter

Wight threw an ugly interception early in the period, but a roughing the passer flag erased the turnover.

Minutes later, the Wight to Lessee connection struck again. This time, a 30-yard deep ball gave the Titans a 15-7 lead.

The yellow laundry continued to be an issue for both teams. Syracuse tried to give possessions away with holding calls and procedural penalties, and Alta handed them extra downs with a series of personal fouls.

Syracuse’s second drive of the half ended with a long field goal to take an 18-7 lead.

Alta struck immediately with an 80-yard touchdown play.

Tucker Brown hit a wide-open Evan Morton across the middle, and the wideout did the rest, pulling away from the defense for six points.

The score remained 18-13 after a botched extra point attempt.

Fourth Quarter

Syracuse struck back with an 11-play, 63-yard drive that ended with Wight finding Lessey for the pair’s third TD of the night.

The touchdown gave Syracuse a 25-13 lead with 8:16 left.

Alta got the ball back and marched into Titans territory. The Hawks cut the deficit to one possession when Treyvin Fabrizion caught a TD from Tucker Brown.

Syracuse was able to regain possession of the football and utilized the running game to drain the clock in the 25-20 win.

The Titans improve to 4-1, Alta falls to 2-3.
