Week 5: 6A Utah High School Football Recap

SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 1 Corner Canyon Chargers remained undefeated with their 56-14 win over the Brighton Bengals in week five of 6A high school football on Friday.

42 of the Chargers’ 56 points came in the first half. Quarterback Helaman Casuga threw six touchdowns to five different receivers. Lucas Jackson was the WR with two scores.

Weston Briggs capped off a Corner Canyon drive in the third quarter for the team’s sole rushing touchdown.

Week 5 Recap For 6A Utah High School Football

Region 2

No. 10 Herriman Mustangs 40 @ Bingham Miners 0

The Herriman Mustangs scored at least one touchdown in each quarter of their shutout win over the Bingham Miners on Friday. Quarterback Tyler Messer scrambled for three touchdowns. Filisi Filipe, Toa Roberts, and Jack Cleverly also got in the end zone.

Cedar Valley Aviators 7 @ Riverton Silverwolves 30

After the Cedar Valley Aviators took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, the Riverton Silverwolves took off and cruised to a week five win. Quarterback Xander Thayer threw three touchdowns, each to a different receiver. The Silverwolves improved to 3-2 with the win.

Copper Hills Grizzlies 15 @ No. 13 Mountain Ridge Sentinels 49

The Mountain Ridge Sentinels scored two touchdowns in every quarter other than the third in their win over the Copper Hills Grizzlies on Friday. The passing attack was dynamic for the Sentinels. Jaxon Hunt had six total touchdowns, with five coming through the air.

Non-Region

No. 7 American Fork Cavemen 38 @ Layton Lancers 0

The American Fork Cavemen scored 21 points in the second quarter and 14 in the fourth quarter of their shutout win over the Layton Lancers in week five. The Cavemen’s offense did its work in many ways. Prince Afu ran in one touchdown, two quarterbacks combined for three passing scores, and three different receivers caught those touchdowns.

No. 23 Weber Warriors 8 @ No. 9 Lehi Pioneers 42

The Lehi Pioneers opened the game with 42 unanswered points to improve to 4-1 with a win over the Weber Warriors on Friday. Devaughn Eka had three touchdowns, two on the ground and one through the air. Quarterback Cash Hollingshead had three total passing TDs, with the other two going to Legend Glasker.

No. 3 Skyridge Falcons 28 @ Cherry Creek Bruins (CO) 51

The Skyridge Falcons lost their first game of the season in week five as the Cherry Creek Bruins defended their home turf in Colorado. Cherry Creek opened the game with 21 points in the first quarter, forcing Skyridge to fight from behind. They responded with 28 total points across the next two quarters. However, the Bruins sealed the deal with 17 more unanswered points in the fourth quarter.

Farmington Phoenix 7 @ No. 2 Lone Peak Knights 34

The Lone Peak Knights scored at least one touchdown in each quarter of their win over the Farmington Phoenix on Friday. Defense was the difference for the Knights. They had two pick-sixes, one from Sa Tanuvasa and another from Anthon Grimmer.

Woods Cross Wildcats (5A) 28 @ No. 16 Westlake Thunder 10

The Woods Cross Wildcats shocked the Westlake Thunder with a convincing win on the road in week five. Three of Woods Cross’ four scores came on the ground. Viliami Tapa’atoutai had two, and Ryan Miller ran in another.
