Tony Finau Battled The Elements At The Masters Throughout Third Round

SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau has completed his third round at The Masters after managing to post a two-over-par round of 74.
Usually, a two-over-par round would be considered poor most weeks on the PGA Tour, but not during the third round of the 2022 Masters. The conditions were brutal. Augusta National was showing its teeth.
The winds were howling, the temperatures were in the 40s and 50s and the greens were slick. Scoring was incredibly difficult.
Finau’s round began with a very uncomfortable bogey. He three-putted from 10 feet after two incredible shots to get him to the green. Fortunately, on the par 5 2nd he capitalized by sinking the 10-foot putt for birdie and was back to even for the day.

Finau then caught an unlucky break on 7 when his sand shot caught a lip near the hole and rolled the golf ball some 25 feet from the cup. He two-putted for his second bogey of the day.

Finau’s approach on nine found the putting surface before spinning backward and rolling down the front edge of the green back onto the fairway. His birdie chip ran past the hole and his par putt fizzed on back by the cup, fortunately, he was able to drop a 7-foot bogey putt to keep a double bogey off the cards. Finau was moving in the wrong direction, however.
Then, on the par 5 13th Finau found Rae’s Creek from 200 yards out and was forced to drop. A chip onto the putting surface and two putts later Finau settled for his fourth bogey of the day.
The round was capped off by a magnificent approach on the 17th. His high iron dropped right next to the pin before trickling to 5 feet. His putt was dead straight and fell into the jaws of the cup.
Finau dropped from T23 to T34 with golfers still out on the course. Currently, he sits at four-over-par for the tournament, and 14 shots behind Scottie Sheffler who is at 10-under-par thru six holes today.
Tee times and pairings are yet to be announced for the final round.
