Tony Finau Fires Eight Under Par Round At Houston Open

SALT LAKE CITY – Tony Finau managed to fire an eight-under-par second round at the Houston Open to sit clear atop the leaderboard.
Remarkable Second Round At Houston
Finau’s round began off the first tee early on Friday morning and was quickly tasked with draining a 15-foot putt for par following an errant second and third shot. Once Finau stepped foot on the second tee box, his round was about to drastically change.
Finau managed to fire 10 birdies throughout the day while only succumbing to 2 bogeys. Birdies on the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th, and 9th holes with a lone front 9 bogey on 4 had Finau making the turn at 5-under-par.
On the back nine, Finau managed to rattle off 4 more birdies with the 2 bogey of the day coming on 14.
It was truly a special round for Finau who managed to enter the second round tied atop the leaderboard but now finds himself with a multiple-shot advantage on the field.

A win would be his 4th individual title on TOUR since the start of last year's FedExCup Playoffs, tied with the reigning FedExCup champ (McIlroy) and Player of the Year (Scheffler) for the most in that span.

Finau was in complete control of his game throughout the entire morning. He averaged 303.5 yards off the tee, 61.54% of fairways hit, and 72.22% of greens hit in regulation. Finau’s putting was extraordinary. He gained nearly 3 strokes gained on the field with his flat stick.

Furthermore, throughout the opening two rounds at the Houston Open, Finau is yet to miss a putt between 4 and 8 feet. He is 100%.
Currently, Finau holds a four-shot lead on the field. Patrick Rodgers is at nine-under-par and in the lone position of second while James Hahn and Tyson Alexander are in a tie for third at seven-under-par.
The majority of the field is still out on the golf course. However, it is unlikely that any other member of the field will catch Finau by the conclusion of the second round.
Tee times and pairings ahead of Saturday are yet to be announced.
The Houston Open is only the second tournament of the 2022/23 PGA Tour season for Finau. Last week, he debuted at the Mayakoba Golf Classic but failed to make the cut after a disappointing second round in Mexico.
