Tony Finau In The Field For This Week’s Zurich Classic

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau is in the field for this week’s Zurich Classic. It will be his first start since he finished in a tie for 10th at The Masters.

Although tee times are yet to be available, Finau does know who he will be paired with for the opening two rounds. Finau will walk alongside Cameron Champ, the 87th best golfer in the world according to the Official World Golf Rankings.

The Zurich Classic is a team event, meaning, Finau and Champ will be playing on the same team and not against one and another.

Tony stays at 12th in the OWGR, and falls to 11th in the FedEx Cup Standings.

In 2017, it was announced that the Zurich Classic will be a team event. The format was then altered again in 2018. This year, teams will play a fourball format in the first and third rounds and an alternate shot format in the second and fourth rounds.

The tournament offers 400 FedEx Cup points to the winning team but no world ranking points are available.

In its current format, Finau’s best finish at the Zurich Classic came in 2018 when he and Daniel Summerhays ended in sixth place. In 2019, Finau and Kyle Stanley missed the cut.

Last year, the Zurich Classic was cancelled due to the global pandemic.

Following Finau’s top 10 finish at The Masters two weeks ago, he climbed multiple spots in the Official World Golf Rankings and now comes in at number 12, just two spots shy from the top 10.

Remarkably, Finau has finished in the top 10 in 8 of the previous 12 Major Tournaments. His ability to elevate his game when Major Tournaments roll around is impressive.
