Tony Finau Makes The Turn At Even Par During First Round At US Open Championship

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau’s first nine holes of the 120th US Open Championship are complete as the Utah native makes the turn at even-par, 35.

Finau’s day did not get off to a good start following back-to-back bogeys on holes three and four he quickly found himself two-over-par.

Strong Finish

However, a birdie on six following an impressive up and down from the long and dangerous Winged Foot rough started the comeback.

Hole nine is a short 565-yard par 5 in which Finau found the green in two. His eagle putt was below the cup from roughly 20 feet but had to go up and over a steep ridge. The eagle putt fell short but he was able to tap in his second birdie of the round and make the turn at even par.

Comfortable Conditions

Finau is chasing Justin Thomas, who finished earlier this morning after he blistered the course with a five-under, 65.

The Winged Foot Golf Club superintendent did not imagine any player in the field to finish any round with a score of under par, however, the very little wind and overcast conditions early on Thursday morning made the golf course manageable for the best players in the world.
