SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau has missed the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship after posting a two-over-par second round to conclude the first two days at four-over-par and three shots off the cut.

Finau began his Friday on the 10th tee and got off to a flyer with birdies on 11 and 14. But then a double bogey on 18 after finding the water on his approach had him making the turn at where he started, the double on 18 put a halt to any momentum in which he had gathered prior to that.

Immediately following the double on 18 he made bogey on the 1st. Then, on the par 4 2nd, he left himself with a 22-foot look at par, only to miss and suffer yet another bogey.

Finau then recovered with a string of pars, but he ultimately ran out of time and holes. A birdie on 7 after missing the 8-foot look for eagle gave some life but needed a strong finish to have any chance at making the cut.

With two holes left, he needed consecutive birdies to qualify for the weekend. That hope was essentially drained after he made par on the 8th hole.

Finau’s statistics were less than ideal as he only hit 50 percent of fairways and consequently 50 percent of greens in regulation. Quail Hollow Golf Course is no joke and provides issues to many world-renowned players with their narrow fairways and slick greens. In fact, the 18th hole at Quail Hollow is currently the hardest par 4 in the entire world.

But still, Finau needs to be hitting more fairways and greens if he has any intention of contending for PGA Tour events. He only averaged 286 yards off the tee, which is well below his usual average.

Finau will not play next week at At&T Byron Nelson, his next event will be at the PGA Championship in two weeks at Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina.
