SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau has missed the cut at the Travelers Championship, making it the second consecutive PGA Tour event in which Finau will miss the cut.

It was a stronger performance throughout the second round for Finau who entered the day after a dismal six-over-par opening round. His second-round concluded at three-under-par and three-over-par for the tournament.

Round one consisted of just one birdie, round two had four. His only bogey on the day came on the par 4 17th hole, a hole that has caused Finau trouble after he double-bogeyed the hole on Thursday.

The birdies fell on holes 2, 8, 13, and 15. The highlight of the round coming when he chipped in for birdie from the rough on the second hole, in a beautiful display of touch.

Finau found far more fairways throughout his second round and was able to attack pin placements with far less caution as opposed to round one.

Sadly, his efforts will not be enough to grant him access to weekend golf.

It is the second time this year that Finau has missed the cut in back-to-back weeks. The first occasion came when he struggled at The Players before missing the cut again a week later at the Valero Texas Open.

It remains unknown if Finau will contend at next week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic or if he will decide to take a break before the John Deere Classic. Either way, with The Open Championship scheduled to begin on July 15 at Royal St. George’s Golf Club in England, Finau must find a way to get back to the form that saw him secure the most FedEx Cup points through January and February of this year.
