Tony Finau Named To Featured Group For Final Tournament Before The Masters

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau will embark on his final tournament ahead of the 2021 Masters and will be featured heavily during the broadcast at the Valero Texas Open, the PGA Tour announced today.
Finau will play alongside Cameron Champ and last week’s winner Joel Dahmen through the first two days of the tournament. Finau being included in this week’s featured groupings means fans of Finau will be able to watch most of his shots as the Golf Channel broadcasts the event.
He will tee off at 11:53 a.m. on Thursday and 6:58 a.m. on Friday.

Hot & Cold 2021 Season To Date
Finau began the 2021 season in staggering form, through the first two months of the year he had accumulated the most Official World Golf Ranking points out of anyone in the world. He finished with multiple top 5 finishes that included back-to-back second-place finishes at The Genesis Invitational and the Farmers Insurance Open.
However, his recent form is a cause for concern. Midway through March Finau missed the cut at The Players Championship, it was his first missed cut since August. Then, after taking a week off to rest, he returned to play at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play event and lost his opening round against Dylan Frittelli, drew against Will Zalatoris and beat Jason Kokrak but was unable to advance out of the group stage and was subsequently eliminated from the tournament on Friday.
This week offers Finau a chance to return to his progressive ways. With just one week until The Masters, Finau must re-find his form if he hopes to contend for golf’s most prized jacket, the Green Jacket.

Nonetheless, the Valero Texas Open is an important event for Finau. When a form slump occurs, confidence often plummets with it. Very few, if any, winners of The Masters lacked confidence.
If Finau can perform well at the Valero Texas Open, he will enter The Masters with a good sense of confidence and will hopefully perform admirably on golf’s biggest stage.
