Tony Finau Tee Times, Pairings Announced Ahead Of U.S. Open

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Tony Finau will begin his 2021 U.S. Open campaign alongside Daniel Berger and Abraham Ancer through the first two rounds at Torrey Pines Golf Course this week.
Finau, 31, is vying to win his second PGA Tour event at a golf course that he has played well at over the years. Most recently, Finau finished in a T2 at Torrey Pines South Course earlier this year at the Farmers Insurance Open when he finished five shots behind eventual champion Patrick Reed.

The U.S. Open has also been kind to Finau over the years. Last year at Winged Foot Golf Club he ended in a tie for eighth. His best finish at the U.S. Open came in 2018 when he finished in fifth, four shots behind Brooks Koepka at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
This week, Finau will have his work cut out for him. Torrey Pines South is a long, windy golf course that plays along the Pacific Ocean coastline in San Diego, California.
Finau arrived in San Diego on Monday, June 14, and immediately headed for the golf course for a practice round. A video emerged of Finau hitting an approach shot out of the rough. His ball was barely visible as he hacked it towards the green.

Fortunately, Finau thrives in difficult conditions. He has a tremendous ability to advance the golf ball in high wind and challenging conditions. His length off the tee and approaching greens give Finau an advantage over the rest of the field. Sadly, Finau’s putting has been the thorn in his game thus far throughout his career.

He ranks 133rd on the PGA Tour as it relates to strokes gained putting. In every other aspect of his game, he ranks inside the top 30 with his best attribute being strokes gained tee to green in which he ranks 6th.
