BYU, Bears QB Jim McMahon’s Former Illinois Estate Hits Market

NORTHBROOK, Ill. – NFL legend and former BYU quarterback Jim McMahon’s former Illinois home is listed on the market and could break a local sales record.
The 10,286-square-foot estate’s asking price is currently set at $5.99 million.

The current owners, Yianny and Annette Caparos, are the second owners of the home. They purchased it for $4.25 million after renovations in 2013. At the time, that was the most expensive home sale recorded in Northbrook.
McMahon purchased the land the estate is now on back in 1986. His family lived there until 2009, when they sold for $2.85 million.
The three-story house has two laundry rooms, an office, a theater room, a recreation room, a bonus loft, and an indoor convertible sports court. With three acres of land and a private road, the five-bedroom, 10-bathroom home comes with plenty of privacy.
According to an article on Homes.com, the average home value in Northbrook is $825,514.

In four years with the Cougars from 1977 to 1981, McMahon posted 9,536 passing yards and 84 touchdowns. He set or tied 70 NCAA records, finished top five in Heisman Trophy voting twice, and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999. Steve Young, another legendary Brigham Young QB, succeeded McMahon in 1982.
After playing at BYU, McMahon was selected by the Bears with the fifth overall pick in the 1982 NFL Draft. During his time with Chicago, the QB won a Super Bowl ring. He played for the Bears until 1988.
In 2014, McMahon was inducted into the BYU Athletics Hall of Fame after completing his communications degree.
On October 3, 2014, the university honored the legendary quarterback by retiring his No. 9 jersey during halftime of BYU’s game against Utah State.
