Former Utah State LB Bobby Wagner Re-Signs With Commanders For One Year

SALT LAKE CITY – Former Utah State linebacker Bobby Wagner is returning to the nation’s capital.
Yesterday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Wagner was resigning with the Washington Commanders with a one-year deal. Today that news was made official and Wagner was made available to the media.

In his first season with the Commanders in 2024, Wagner posted 132 total tackles (75 solo), two sacks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and four pass breakups.
The 13-year NFL vet was the clear-cut defensive captain for a young and upcoming Washington team.
He helped lead the Commanders to the NFC Championship where they fell to the eventual champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Both Wagner and the team’s feelings on last season’s conclusion were made clear from very early on in the media availability.
“We have unfinished business,” Wagner said.
With that said, the biggest reason for his return wasn’t to avenge last season’s finish, but rather because he feels he’s found a home in Washington.
He alluded to this feeling and also mentioned that he was confident in working out a deal to return.
“I love what we’re building here,” Wagner said. “I love the team. I feel like this is the place. You always want to be in a place where they want you and accept you. I was pretty confident that we were going to be able to get something worked out. It was just sitting down and putting our heads together to make something good for both sides. I was confident that this was going to work out.”
About Bobby Wagner
After a college career at Utah State, the Southern California native was selected by the Seahawks during the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Wagner helped Seattle win Super Bowl XLVIII in 2013.
After spending the first 10 seasons of his career with the Seahawks, Wagner joined Seattle’s NFC West rival on March 31, 2022. The six-time All-Pro player was released by the Seahawks on March 8, 2022.
In 2022, the Rams finished in third place in the NFC West with a 5-12 record. Los Angeles failed to qualify for the NFL Playoffs after winning the Super Bowl last season. Wagner recorded 140 total tackles, 81 solo tackles, six sacks, two interceptions, and five pass breakups as a member of the Rams.
In 2023, the former USU standout received his ninth career AP All-Pro honor. Wagner has been named to the All-Pro first team six times and three times to the second team during his 11-year NFL career.
