SALT LAKE CITY – Current Washington Commander and former Utah State Aggie linebacker Bobby Wagner is joining the Seattle Storm‘s ownership group. He is the first active NFL player to have equity in a WNBA franchise.

The Storm announced Wagner’s addition on Wednesday, July 23.

The move solidifies the ten-time Pro Bowler’s roots in the Seattle area after spending his first ten years with the Seahawks. Wagner helped pilot a Seahawks defense that reached consecutive Super Bowls in 2014 and 2015, earning a championship with a dominating 43-8 win over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Wagner re-signed with the Commanders after helping the team reach the 2025 NFC Championship Game. He tallied 25 stops and a fumble recovery in three playoff games.

About Bobby Wagner

After a college career at Utah State, the Southern California native was selected by the Seahawks during the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

After spending the first 10 seasons of his career with the Seahawks, Wagner joined Seattle’s NFC West rival Los Angeles Rams after being released by the Seahawks in March 2022.

The Rams finished 2022 in third place in the NFC West with a 5-12 record. Los Angeles failed to qualify for the NFL Playoffs after winning the previous Super Bowl. Wagner recorded 140 total tackles, 81 solo tackles, six sacks, two interceptions, and five pass breakups as a member of the Rams.

In 2023, the former USU standout received his ninth career AP All-Pro honor. Wagner has been named to the All-Pro first team six times and three times to the second team during his 13-year NFL career.

Wagner played 17 games with Washington in 2024. He started every game, finishing the regular season with 132 tackles, two sacks, and ten tackles for a loss.

He enters his 14th NFL season with 1,838 tackles, 35 sacks, and 99 tackles for a loss. He adds 13 career interceptions, forced seven fumbles, recovered 12 fumbles, and has four defensive touchdowns.

Wagner is 221 tackles away from becoming the NFL’s all-time leader. He is currently fourth on the list behind Ray Lewis (2,059), London Fletcher (2,039), and Junior Seau (1,847).
