Former Utah CB Javelin Guidry Was Best Value Pick In 2020 NFL Draft By New York Jets

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah cornerback Javelin Guidry was the best value pick for the New York Jets according to ESPN as an undrafted free agent.

The former Utah standout Javelin Guidry signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and had a tremendous rookie season. Guidry didn’t get any playing time until Week 4 when he appeared on special teams. He had one defensive snap in Week 5 against the Cardinals before recording his first tackle in Week 6 versus Miami.

The speedster cornerback played on special teams through the next three weeks against the Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Chargers. Then he played seven snaps on defense in Week 12 against the Miami Dolphins. Guidry recorded 2 tackles and a forced fumble in those seven snaps.

He played 36 snaps on defense against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 13 and had his best performance to that point with 6 total tackles, 4 solo tackles and 2 forced fumbles. His first NFL start came in Week 14 against the Seattle Seahawks when he recorded 5 total tackles, 2 solo tackles and a quarterback hit.

Guidry started for the second straight week versus the Los Angeles Rams. He had 6 solo tackles in the win. After missing Week 16, Guidry ended the regular season with one solo tackle and a forced fumble against the Patriots.

After his rookie season, Guidry finished with 22 total tackles, 15 solo tackles and was tied for third in the NFL with 4 forced fumbles.

  • Sixth round (191st pick): Braden Mann, P, Texas A&M

Javelin Guidry Had Successful Career At Utah

The Murrieta, California native started his college career 2017 where he played in all 13 games and started in four games at nickel. He had a 14-yard interception return for a touchdown against Arizona.

Guidry’s sophomore season in 2018 saw him play in 14 games with 9 starts. He racked up 42 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 9 pass breakups, 10 passes defended and one interception. Guidry was named Pac-12 Honorable Mention.

His last season with the Utes in 2019, Guidry played in all 14 games and started in 12 contests at nickelback. He had 48 tackles and 6 pass breakups which led to another Pac-12 Honorable Mention.

After his junior season in 2019, Guidry decided to skip his senior season and enter the NFL Draft.

At the NFL Combine, Guidry ran the second fastest 40-yard dash at 4.29.
