Former Utah, NFL Quarterback Alex Smith Receives Ovation At S.F. Giants Game

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah Utes and NFL quarterback Alex Smith received a standing ovation from the crowd at Oracle Park during the San Francisco Giants’ game against the Colorado Rockies.
The Giants hosted the Rockies on Friday, August 13.
During the ball game, Smith was shown on the outfield big screen at Oracle Park and received a loud standing ovation from the crowd of baseball fans.

During the game, Smith took the time to take pictures and sign autographs for fans.

The former Utah standout was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers and played the first seven seasons of his NFL career with the Bay Area franchise.

In his time with the Niners, Smith threw for 14,280 yards and 81 touchdowns.

During this year’s NFL offseason, Smith announced his retirement from professional football.

The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft finished his 16-year career throwing for 35,650 yards and 199 touchdowns with a 62.6 completion rate.
During his career, Smith played for the Niners, Kansas City Chiefs, and Washington Football Team.
Smith was named to the Pro Bowl three times during his career. He led the league in passer rating in 2017 and received the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year award in 2020.
The former Ute reportedly plans to join ESPN as an NFL analyst.
