SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Former Utah offensive lineman J.J. Dielman has decided to retire from the National Football League after two seasons.

Only three days after signing with the New England Patriots, Dielman will walk away from football. With the move, the Patriots have moved him to the reserve/retired list.

Dielman was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fifth round, 176th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

He was waived nearly five months later before being claimed off of waivers by the Los Angeles Rams.

They released him nine days later.

Two days after his release from the Rams, the Bengals re-signed him to the practice squad. He was then signed by the Denver Broncos in December 2017 to help the Broncos offensive line depth due to many injuries to starters.

On September 1, 2018, Dielman was placed on the injured reserve but was released 10 days later.

He also spent one week with the Seattle Seahawks before going back to the Rams after getting signed to their practice squad.

Dielman is from Ahwatukee, Arizona and played high school football at Desert Vista where he was named first team all-state. He was a three year starter at the University of Utah, starting in 31 consecutive games as a versatile offensive lineman. Dielman was named second team All-Pac-12 in 2015.
