Bears CB Jaylon Johnson Set For Surgery, Could Return This Season

SALT LAKE CITY – Former Utah cornerback Jaylon Johnson is set up for surgery this week, but could return to the field in the second half of the season.
NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Bears head coach Ben Johnson “confirmed that Johnson will have core muscle surgery and should be able to return this season.”

After missing week one of the season, Johnson made his season debut in week two against the Detroit Lions.
He went down in the first half with what was later diagnosed as a groin injury. Chicago placed him on the injured reserve prior to week three.
In his one game, Johnson finished with two solo tackles. In 20 snaps, he was targeted three times, had one pass breakup, and allowed one catch for 16 yards.
A direct timetable for his return has not been announced at this time.
About Jaylon Johnson
Before his time in the NFL, Johnson played at the University of Utah from 2017-19.
During his time with the Utes, the Fresno, California native had 102 total tackles, 88 solo tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, seven interceptions, and 28 pass breakups in 39 games played.
He was named First-team All-Pac 12 in 2018 and 2019.
Following his college career, Johnson was selected by the Bears with the No. 50 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

In 2022, Johnson had 35 total tackles, 28 solo tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and seven pass breakups.
He followed that with a breakout season in 2023. He posted 36 total tackles, one forced fumble, four interceptions, and one pick-six.
Last season, Johnson finished with 53 total tackles (42 solo), one forced fumble, two interceptions, and eight pass breakups.
