Potential Landing Spots For Ravens QB Tyler Huntley In 2022

SALT LAKE CITY – During his five games played this season, former Utah Utes and current Baltimore Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley impressed fans and NFL experts by playing with a command of the offense and a showcase of error-free football.

The former Utah standout started for the second time this season in Week 15 and nearly led the Ravens to a win over the Green Bay Packers.

Huntley scored four touchdowns in a one-point loss to Aaron Rodgers’ squad.

Tyler Huntley in 2021

In five games this season, Huntley has thrown for 743 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception with a 68.8 completion rate. He’s added 29 rushes for 168 yards and two touchdowns with his legs.

Due to his production, many football fans and analysts are beginning to wonder if Huntley will be traded to another team to become a starting quarterback for the 2022 season.

Tyler Huntley’s Contract

According to Spotrac, Huntley is currently earning a total of $780,000 for the 2021 season. In the offseason, the former Ute will become an exclusive rights free agent or ERFA.

An ERFA is a “player with fewer than three accrued seasons and an expired contract. If his original team offers him a one-year contract and the league minimum (based on his credited seasons), the player cannot negotiate with other teams,” according to NFL.com.

In short, by becoming an ERFA in March 2022, the Ravens will have full control of Huntley’s next contract. If Baltimore wants to re-sign and keep Huntley, they will be able to do so. The Ravens will also have control of Huntley in the trade market and could potentially get a good haul of picks or players for what could become a starting quarterback for another team.

Potential landing spots for Tyler Huntley

Miami Dolphins

After a slow start to the season, the Dolphins have begun to win in recent weeks. However, I still don’t believe that Miami is confident in Tua Tagovailoa as a long-term solution at quarterback.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The clock is about to hit midnight on “Big” Ben Roethlisberger’s Hall of Fame career. The two-time Super Bowl champ will retire sooner rather than later and his replacement isn’t on Pittsburgh’s roster.

Houston Texans

Deshaun Watson hasn’t played for the Texans this season and is likely to be traded before next season. Davis Mills has played well at times, I don’t think he’s Houston’s franchise quarterback for years to come.

Las Vegas Raiders

The David Carr era has been one of consistent inconsistency. The Raiders are a mediocre club with an average quarterback. At some point, Las Vegas will need to move on in hopes of a brighter future.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos haven’t found the answer at quarterback since Peyton Manning’s retirement following a Super Bowl win. Teddy Bridgewater is decent but isn’t in the top tier of quarterbacks. Denver has young weapons and a strong defense. Quarterback is the missing piece at Mile High.

Washington Football Team

Washington signed Ryan Fitzpatrick last offseason and saw him suffer a season-ending injury early in 2021. Taylor Heinicke is a serviceable backup but the Washington Football Team needs a quarterback for the future.

New York Giants

Daniel Jones hasn’t always lived up to his nickname of “Danny Dimes.” His 2021 season was cut short due to injury and it’s possible that New York will want to see another year of the former Duke quarterback. However, if the Giants believe they can upgrade at the position I don’t think they’ll hesitate to do so.

Minnesota Vikings

Like the Raiders, the Vikings know their ceiling with their current quarterback. Kirk Cousins will win you some games but he will also lose you a few as well. I don’t believe that the former Michigan State signal-caller isn’t going to be leading Minnesota to the Super Bowl anytime soon.

Detroit Lions

Detroit is young and so is their quarterback, Jared Goff. The former Los Angeles Ram played in the Super Bowl a few years ago but has regressed since then. Unless he turns his game around quickly, the Lions will look to upgrade at quarterback.

New Orleans Saints

Drew Brees retired following the 2020 season and set up a quarterback battle between Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston. Since then, Winston won the QB1 job and suffered a season-ending injury. The Saints have played multiple quarterbacks this season and it’s been a rollercoaster season in New Orleans. Will Sean Payton look outside his current roster for a new QB1? I wouldn’t rule it out.

Atlanta Falcons

Matt Ryan’s best days are behind him. Atlanta failed to draft a quarterback in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft but sooner or later the Falcons will need to groom a future franchise quarterback.

Carolina Panthers

The Sam Darnold trade didn’t work out for Carolina. The Cam Newton free agent signing didn’t work out either. The Panthers need a new plan at quarterback.

Seattle Seahawks

Russell Wilson is still in Seattle. However, last offseason rumors swirled that the former Super Bowl champ wanted to play somewhere else. If Wilson were to be traded, a player like Huntley would fit perfectly in Pete Carroll’s system.

Baltimore Ravens

As previously mention, the Ravens control Huntley’s destiny for 2022. If Baltimore isn’t enticed by the trade market, Huntley would continue to make an excellent backup for Lamar Jackson.

The Ravens currently own an 8-6 record this season.
