Report: Seattle Seahawks To Release Pro Bowl LB Bobby Wagner

SALT LAKE CITY – The Seattle Seahawks informed former Utah State linebacker Bobby Wagner that they are releasing him, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The NFL insider reported Wagner’s release on Tuesday, March 8.
“Seahawks informed eight-time All-Pro and Pro-Bowl LB Bobby Wagner, a franchise icon, that they are releasing him, per source.” Schefter tweeted. “Wagner arrived in Seattle on the same 2012 day as Russell Wilson and now leaves the same day, too. End of an era in Seattle.”

Wagner was likely released due to salary cap reasons.
According to ESPN, the linebacker was slated to count more than $20 million towards Seattle’s salary cap in 2022 and none of his money was guaranteed.
The former USU standout was selected to his eighth consecutive Pro Bowl in 2021.
This season, Wagner recorded 170 total tackles, 93 solo tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, one interception, and five pass breakups.
Bobby Wagner played 10 seasons in Seattle. He was named an All Pro LB in right of those seasons.

During his 10-year career, Wagner has posted 1,383 total tackles, 818 solo tackles, 23.5 sacks, six forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, 11 interceptions, 60 pass breakups, and one touchdown in 150 games.
Wagner helped Seattle win Super Bowl XLVIII in 2013.
The Seahawks missed the postseason with a 7-10 record in 2021.
