NASHVILLE, Tennessee – With the 47th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks selected former Utah safety Marquise Blair.

Blair is the first player from the state of the Utah to be picked in this year’s draft.

The Seahawks acquired the pick used to draft Blair by trading the 37th overall pick to the Carolina Panthers for the 47th and 77th picks.

Blair came to Utah as a junior college transfer from Dodge City Community College, where he was a junior college All-American.

In 2018, he earned second-team All-Pac-12 honors with 59 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions and a forced fumble.

Known as one of the hardest-hitting players in the Pac-12 Conference, Blair’s aggressiveness occasionally got him in trouble at the college level. He was ejected from several games after being called for targeting.

Blair joins former TCU defensive end L.J. Collier, who was picked in the first round, as the first two draft selections for Seattle.

Scalley Calls It

Prior to Seattle’s official selection, Utah defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley seemed to have a feeling that Blair would get his name called by the Seahawks.

He tweeted this just seconds before the pick was announced:

Once it became official, Scalley congratulated Blair and the Seahawks for the pick.
