SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Seattle Seahawks placed wide receiver John Ursua on injured reserve after the former Westlake and Cedar City standout suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Ursua suffered the injury and was carted off the field during Seattle’s 30-3 preseason loss to the Denver Broncos on Saturday, August 21.

“Johnny U and BBK, both of those guys got hurt seriously tonight, and it breaks our hearts,” Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said after the game. “This is a rough game and sometimes it takes a toll, and those two kids are hurt.”

At the end of the game, Ursua was Seattle’s leading receiver with three catches for 34 yards.

The receiver confirmed the knee injury and said he tore his left ACL.

Ursua said the injury would cause him to miss the 2021 NFL season.

“Last night I tore my ACL, so I’ll be out for the season,” Ursua on social media.

This isn’t the first time Ursua has experience an ACL injury. He tore his right ACL in 2017.

About John Ursua

After a standout prep career playing at Westlake High School and Cedar City High School, Ursua played college football at Hawai’i.

Following his time with the Rainbow Warriors, the Seahawks selected Ursua during the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

During his rookie season, Ursua had one catch for 11 yards and appeared in three games.

Last season, the receiver was a member of Seattle’s practice squad.

In two preseason games this year, Ursua had a total of four receptions for 33 yards.

Seattle’s final preseason game is against the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday, August 28 at 8 p.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on the NFL Network.

The Seahawks open the regular season against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, September 12 at 11 a.m. (MDT). The game will broadcast on FOX.
