Seven Local Players Reach NFL Conference Championship Games

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – After the Divisional Round in the NFL Playoffs, only four teams remain and will battle for conference titles on Sunday, January 19 and a trip to the Super Bowl.

Seven players with local ties will move on to the Conference Championship round next week, one former Ute, three former Cougars, two former Aggies and one former Thunderbird.

Here is how all of the players with ties to the state of Utah fared during the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs.

Former Utes

Mitch Wishnowsky, P, San Francisco 49ers (13-3)
Wishnowsky punted the ball 4 times for 186 yards. He averaged 46.5 yards per punt, one punt was a touchback, two landed inside the 20 and his longest punt was 56 yards. The 49ers beat the Minnesota Vikings 27-10 in the NFC Divisional Round.

Marquise Blair, S, Seattle Seahawks (11-5)
Blair was not active for the Seahawks in their 28-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round.
Next Up: Season is over. Blair has two more years remaining on his rookie contract.

Cody Barton, LB, Seattle Seahawks (11-5)
Barton started in his second consecutive playoff game and had 3 tackles in the Seahawks’ 28-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round.
Next Up: Season is over. Barton has two more years remaining on his rookie contract.

Former Cougars

Jamaal Williams, RB, Green Bay Packers (13-3)
Williams had one carry for three yards and one catch for 9 yards in the Packers’ 28-23 win over the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Divisional Round.
Next Up: NFC Championship at San Francisco 49ers (13-3), Sunday at 4:40 p.m. on FOX.

Daniel Sorensen, S, Kansas City Chiefs (12-4)
Sorensen made two great plays in the Chiefs’ 51-31 win over the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional Round. He made the tackle on fourth down when the Texans attempted a fake punt. Sorensen also forced a fumble on a kickoff return. The former Cougar led the Chiefs with 9 tackles, including 5 solo tackles in the win.

AFC Championship vs. Tennessee Titans (9-7), Sunday at 1:05 p.m. on CBS.

Fred Warner, LB, San Francisco 49ers (13-3)
Warner led the 49ers with 7 tackles, including 4 solo tackles in the 49ers’ 27-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Divisional Round.

NFC Championship vs. Green Bay Packers (13-3), Sunday at 4:40 p.m. on FOX.

Ezekiel Ansah, DE, Seattle Seahawks (11-5)
Ansah was not active for the Seahawks in their 28-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round.
Next Up: Season is over. Ansah will become a free agent during the off-season.

Former Aggies

Kyler Fackrell, LB, Green Bay Packers (13-3)
Fackrell appeared on defense and special teams in the Packers’ 28-23 win over the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Divisional Round but didn’t record any stats.
Next Up: NFC Championship at San Francisco 49ers (13-3), Sunday at 4:40 p.m. on FOX.

Darwin Thompson, RB, Kansas City Chiefs (12-4)
Thompson recovered a fumble on a kickoff return by the Texans and returned the ball 18-yards in the Chiefs’ 51-31 win over the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional Round.
Next Up: AFC Championship vs. Tennessee Titans (9-7), Sunday at 1:05 p.m. on CBS.

Robert Turbin, RB, Seattle Seahawks (11-5)
Turbin played for the Seahawks in their 28-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round, but didn’t record any stats.
Next Up: Season is over. Turbin will become a free agent during the off-season.

Bobby Wagner, LB, Seattle Seahawks (11-5)
Wagner racked up 5 tackles, one pass deflection and two quarterback hits in the Seahawks’ 28-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round.
Next Up: Season is over. Wagner has two more seasons left on his new contract that he signed before the season.

Former Thunderbirds

LeShaun Sims, CB, Tennessee Titans (9-7)
Sims had 2 tackles, including one solo tackle for the Titans in their 28-12 win over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional Round.

Former High School Stars

John Ursua, WR, Seattle Seahawks (11-5)
Ursua was not active for the Seahawks in their 28-23 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round.
