Smith’s Injury Headlines Week In The NFL For Utah Locals

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – It was an unfortunate scene at the Redskins’ home contest to the Texans as former Utah quarterback Alex Smith was carted off the field with a gruesome leg injury. Smith was supported by players from both teams as he was taken off to the field and to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery Sunday night.

Smith’s injury was unfortunate but headlined the week in the NFL for former college stars from the Beehive State.

Here’s how they did in Week 11 of the NFL:

Former Utes

Zane Beadles, Falcons (4-6)
The former Utah offensive lineman found the field on five special teams plays in the Falcons’ 22-19 loss to the Cowboys.

Tony Bergstrom, Redskins (6-4)
Bergstrom started on the field and played every snap at right guard in the Redskins’ 23-21 loss to the Texans. The Redskins also suffered the loss of quarterback Alex Smith to a horrific right leg injury.

Garett Bolles, Broncos (4-6)
Bolles started at left tackle and played in every offensive snap in the Broncos’ dramatic 23-22 win over the Chargers on a last second field goal.

Devontae Booker, Broncos (4-6)
The former Utah running back hauled in one pass for four yards  and also returned two kicks for 38 total yards in Denver’s thrilling road win over the Chargers.

Dominique Hatfield, Rams (9-1)
Hatfield is listed as active for Los Angeles’ Monday Night Football matchup against Kansas City Chiefs. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.

Tim Patrick, Broncos (4-6)
Patrick got the most playing time that he’s had all season, playing in 27 snaps on offense. He was targeted once with no catches in the win over the Chargers.

Derrick Shelby, Falcons (4-6)
The former Ute defensive end made one tackle in the Falcons’ second consecutive loss in their defeat to the Cowboys.

Alex Smith, Redskins (6-4)
Smith was unfortunately on the receiving end of a play that resulted in a broken right tibia and fibula for the former Utah great. He will be sidelined for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery Sunday night. Prior to leaving the game with the injury he had completed 12 of 27 passes for 135 yards and two interceptions. The Redskins lost to the Texans, 23-21.

Sam Tevi, Chargers (7-3)
Tevi got the start at right tackle and played in little more than half of the offensive snaps in the Chargers’ heart-breaking loss to the Broncos.

Eric Weddle, Ravens (5-5)
In the Ravens’ 24-21 win over the Bengals, Weddle made one solo tackle. As per tradition, he celebrated post game with a giant bowl of ice cream.

Marcus Williams, Saints (9-1)
In the Saints’ dominant 48-7 win over the defending champion Eagles, Willliams made one solo tackle.

Former Aggies

Maurice Alexander, Seahawks (5-5)
Alexander found the field for 11 special teams snaps in Seattle’s big Thursday night game against the Packers. The Seahawks won 27-24.

Kyler Fackrell, Packers (4-5-1)
Fackrell had his best game of the year against the Seahawks, sacking Seattle QB Russell Wilson three times. He also had six combined tackles in Green Bay’s 27-24 loss.

Tyler Larsen, Panthers (6-4)
Larsen took the field on three special teams plays in the Panthers’ narrow 20-19 loss to the Lions.

Nevin Lawson, Lions (4-6)
For the second straight game, Lawson finished with five solo tackles. The Lions defeated the Panthers 20-19 at home.

Patrick Scales, Bears (7-3)
Scales executed five special teams snaps in the Bears’ 25-20 win over the Vikings on Sunday Night Football.

Zach Vigil, Redskins (6-4)
Vigil made one tackle on special teams in the Redskins’ 23-21 loss to the Texans.

Bobby Wagner, Seahawks (5-5)
Wagner made nine combined tackles, including one for a loss, in the Seahawks’ 27-24 win over Green Bay on Thursday.

In just his fourth game of the season, Ansah had a sack and made two combined tackles in the Lions’ 20-19 win over the Panthers.

Michael Davis, Chargers (7-3)
Davis made his third start of the season at left cornerback and played every snap of the Chargers’ 23-22 loss to the Broncos. He made two solo tackles and had one pass deflection in the loss.

Taysom Hill, Saints (9-1)
Hill was all over the box score in the Saints’ 48-7 win over the Eagles. He had three rushes for four yards, completed one pass for 10 yards, made one punt return for zero yards and made one solo tackle in the big win over the defending champs.

Daniel Sorensen, Chiefs (9-1)

Jamaal Williams, Packers (4-5-1)
Williams had just one rush for five yards in the Packers’ Thursday night loss to the Seahawks.
